I try to write what my mind tells me to, but sometimes my heart gets in the way...
The Lake That Never Weeps
“I’m truly sorry Audun. We’ve tried everything. It’s been 8 years since we began the process.” Dr. Covidae hands me a card, “I‘ve written down a support group for you to attend. You’ll need people who have been through this.” She gives me a solemn look and leaves me to my sorrows.
The Broken Mind of a Harp
I have been waiting for this night for months now, my entire life really. I have been practicing and rehearsing relentlessly. My fingers are callused and tired. Nothing will stop me from giving my best. Giving my all. Not even the traces of blood that peak through the band-aid on my right middle finger. I will be known as one of the best harpists to have ever played, no matter the sacrifices.
War Against Dandelions
Much like many domesticated animals, outside is a wonderland. Especially for the doggies! The backyard being their personal playground. The happy dance you receive when you grab the leash is almost always accompanied by a song of excitement. Walks are heaven and car rides are a roller-coaster on the way to their amusement park.
The Grip of a Corset
I swear that I should have been born in an era where wearing a corset was the standard. I mean, outside of the disease, lice or the fact that there was no running water or modern toilets for most of those eras, the corset is extremely appealing to me. I am a fool for the historical theme shows like The Tutors and Reign. I also love flicks from time periods that have the corset style costumes like Game of Thrones and Bridgerton. The way Angelina Jolie looked in the movie Original Sin… absolutely loved her dresses!
You ever hear that perfect song that you to have hear over and over and over? No matter what other songs that follow, they just don’t measure up. Something about that certain melody. Their voice. Beat or bass. Harmony. Maybe you can’t figure it out, you just know that you want to hear it on repeat. Releasing something in you. Cleanses a part of your inner war, creating peace. Eases a storm within. It simply soothes you.
Music = Mood
Does your mood change you music or vice-versa? Like most people I have music for moods and moods for music. You know, when you are doing something specific and you end up skipping how many ever songs to find the right one to suit you in that exact moment and mood. Maybe sometimes you're driving down the road and that specific song that you have been thinking about comes on. Or when your shuffle play is not playing what you want to hear. I know, I know, our music device is supposed to be able to read our mind but only ads know what we are thinking...
Some Wine and a 'Date'
Of course, as soon as I turn on Spotify, the song in que is Afraid of the Dark by EZI. I cannot rid of this uncomfortable feeling of not being able to control my emotions towards this man. He's brought out my reckless side. My adventurous side. A side I've never explored. I wasn't a spontaneous person. I lived my life with guidelines. Structure. Cannot be surprised if you plan EVERYTHING! Harder to be hurt if you know what’s coming.
Rochester, NY food!
A few years ago, I left my home town Rochester, NY to a town in the mountains of Oregon. Culture shock for sure. The scenery, the weather, their form of English dialect, their relaxed way of life, dogs were in every establishment, the foliage, even the smell of the air was different.
The Little Black Book
She will be 25 years old tomorrow. Staring in the bathroom mirror in disbelief, she runs her hands through her damp hair, then over her freshly washed face. She checks her forehead for age lines and her eyes for youthfulness. She inhales then exhales very slowly. She opens the cabinet to remove her purple toothbrush and coconut toothpaste. After brushing, she runs her tongue over her clean teeth. She rinses her mouth and places the items back on the cabinet shelf. A low sigh is released as she takes one last look at herself before heading to her bedroom.
Being a resident of Rochester, New York is not an easy feet for many. While there is much greatness in our city, there is also much pain. So much pain, it is displayed in the eyes of individuals daily. Especially those who are struggling beyond all else. The souls who have mis-stepped and ended up off path during their journey. The individuals who lack housing, jobs or careers, family of friends to give a helping hand. The forgotten. The invisible.
