Disclaimer: This isn’t designed to help with the money situation. I’ve included some resources near the end in case you’re interested. The list is by no means comprehensive, but hopefully it will help. What I truly hope to help with is the boredom.
Innumerable writing exercises exist for aspiring authors to hone their skill and established ones to warm up or sharpen their wit. One such example is the very short story. Deceptively complex, the idea is to convey an entire story in as few words as possible. The one of the earliest, shortest examples of such a challenge is generally attributed to Ernest Hemmingway (though there is much debate about whether or not he is in fact the original artist). The story goes that he was in a restaurant with fellow writers and bet them each ten dollars that he could write a story in six words. Once they had placed their bets, Hemmingway wrote, "For sale: baby shoes, never worn." They conceded their defeat.
A small city, Columbia has a surprisingly strong arts community. Murals are painted on buildings, one winter the streets along Main Street featured knitting covered trees, various displays of art smatter the main thoroughfares of the city and many small art galleries thrive in the downtown area. The visitor’s center even has free buttons featuring the words “Artfully Minded.” One of the largest driving forces of this community is the Columbia Museum of Art.
Last time, we talked about some great outdoor activities to do in Daytona Beach. After all that work, I bet you’d have quite an appetite. So, today we’re going to fill your belly with some of my favorite restaurants from the area.
Daytona Beach, Florida, known throughout the world for its history in racing, has blossomed over the years to feature many more options, especially for the less auto-minded among us, such as myself. Located in Volusia County, it is a beautiful area and boasts diversity in its activities. First, I would like to gush about the oaks. Tall and majestic, these trees are in every yard, blocking the residents from the harsh rays of the southern sun. I find them to be truly beautiful though. Wonderfully green with thick trunks and branches, Spanish Moss hangs from them like beige clouds. I find the combination breathtaking.
Some vacations are long, epic adventures, but others are short, quick escapades that thrill and leave you wanting more. The trip I took to Watkins Glen, New York has solidly secured the highest ranking of the latter. We spent two full days there, the first exploring a beautiful gorge with striking waterfalls and fascinating rock formations and the second meandering slowly through a portion of the finger lakes.
