The Next Level
Being your own boss isn't easy, especially when you're a writer. Aside from actually writing a book, you've now got to advertise and market it, particularly for those few who prefer an actual book in their hands. Sure, word of mouth from satisfied readers is a great thing, but that momentum takes time to build, and future readers need to know that you exist, first.

Why Austen Is A ClassicTop Story - February 2022
Jane Austen published four books in her lifetime, with the final two published after her death at the age of 42. Though the books gained a number of wealthy admirers during Jane's lifetime, she spent much of her life in relative poverty after the death of her father, and the works (a kind of satirical romance) also had their share of critics. Against all the odds, however, they endured as staples of classic literature, even centuries after her death.

Introducing Vocal Classroom
Vocal Facebook groups are a great resource. Some focus on self-promotion, a place to post your stories. Great Incantations is a group specifically for Vocal Challenge pieces. Some groups are a place to connect with other writers, or just hang out and talk.

Healthy Eating Staples
Don't get me wrong, I love cooking, and will happily spend half the day over a stove or crock pot. However, I also tend to be busy, between work, study, writing, and some vague approximiation of a social life. Sensory issues with certain flavours and textures do not help.

Infinite Rainbows
In a lot of my writing groups, you can't go a day without someone asking a stupid question about diversity in fiction. "Will I fail to sell any books if I include LGBTQ+ characters?" (My current best-selling book has a Token Straight; nearly all the main characters are somewhere on the rainbow spectrum, and sales soared as a result) "Will women refuse to read my book if I am a man writing a woman main character?" (I recommend getting a female editor or beta reader for authenticity, but as long as you aren't taking inspiration from the Cringe List, you're good.) "Can a thirteen-year-old become a best-selling writer if they write about an interesting main character?" (Not without a relative or parent in the industry who can game the system in your favor. Stick to fanfiction for a couple of years first.) "Is it OK to have an explicit sex scene in a YA Fantasy novel if the characters are of legal age?" (Not in YA, but ok in General or Adult fiction. Your characters might be legal, but your intended audience is not) "How do I make my main characters diverse?" "Can I make my Asian female lead a mail-order bride?" (Unless this is historical fiction set when mail-order brides were actually a big thing, hard NO. Go away and do a lot more research on harmful stereotypes.)
