I want you
You make my body ache, Everytime I see you, my heart thuds painfully against my chest, I can only dig my fingertips into the palms of my hands to stop myself from touching you. When you laugh I want to throw my arms around you and kiss your beautiful face.

Kin is Kin
The wind blew through the trees, Jimmy watched as the leaves shimmered in the afternoon light. He stood up, stretching his back, shoveling was not as easy as he thought, he stared into the hole, slowly getting deeper and deeper as his father continued to shovel. He watched the pile of dirt beside the hole get bigger and bigger, so big that the dirt would slide down bit by bit. He looked at his father, smiling, his sweat covered brow in a sullen expression. Jimmy continued to help as best as a five year old could.

BBQ Meatloaf
BBQ Style Meatloaf Tips and Substitutes Some people like to add diced peppers, I recommend any but green pepper. They overpowers the flavor of your spices which changes the entire flavor of your meatloaf and not in a good way! If you don’t eat meat, substitute the beef for Beyond Meat. You can find this at your local grocery store. You can also use ground turkey, chicken or pork.

Do you have a room to rent?
Do you have a room available? Thomas O'Malley was not a brave man, in fact Thomas was a coward and a bum, standing less than five feet four, bright unruly red hair and a heavy sprinkle of freckles marred his cheeks, to say that he was homely wouldn't be a lie. He was skinny, barely a wisp of a man, his wife always said one good gust of wind and he would blow away. His wife, now she was far from wispy herself, in fact she was a hefty woman with extra curves to spare. Thomas loved that about her, a woman that wasn’t afraid to eat. They adored one another, the only thing Mary loved more than Thomas, was a good meal. But she had a temper, and she was tired of Thomas sitting on his bony butt doing nothing more than yelling at his favorite footy team on the television. They were far from grand, living in a three room shack. The paint was peeling off the walls, and the windows were cracked, and Mary O'Malley was fed up. Why should she have to live in such disrepair? She worked hard, and it was only fair that her husband do the same, after all her sister lived in a nice house across town, her husband made a very decent living, he owned several buildings around Dublin. So as much as it pained her she put her rather large foot down and told Thomas to get a job or get out. In fear of losing his wife, a good home cooked meal and his warm bed he reluctantly went out looking. After a few weeks with no job prospects his brother in law took pity on old Thomas and gave him a job at one of the hotels he owned. The Marigold wasn’t a high end kinda place, in fact it was the polar opposite. Deep in the seediest part of Dublin no decent folk would dare set foot in the area. But it was a job, and it pleased Mary. It was night shift, he hated that, he would miss all the footy games down at the pub with his mates. Mary brushed the lint from his uniform and straightened his tie. She was beaming, so proud of her man. He couldn't possibly complain. Besides who was going to hire a fifty something man with no education, or drive to work for that matter. It was a simple job, sit at a desk in the front entrance and do a few rounds in the 3 story building, the place was closed down.

Mental Health shouldnt depend on our wallets
Can we talk about mental health, 2020, right! The world is upside down, with COVID its been heartbreaking, death and sickness all around us, but there is so much more to this world than that. There is beauty, and kindness compassion and help. There are places where you can be honest and say I need help. That leads us to ask, who do we believe? our friends? the government, celebrities, the hundreds of online sites that offer help? What about therapists? I think that in times like this we need to trust ourselves first. We have all been in a position where someone has stepped on our feelings, it's terrible isn’t it, in fact it changes your perception of the world around you, and your self worth. All too often we forget to be kind. Someone cuts you off in morning traffic, and you snap at your coworker. Someone said something rude to you and you in turn take that feeling out on someone else. You aren’t a bad person, you're just having a bad moment, we are human. Learning to be mindful of our actions towards others is hard, life sometimes gets in the way, our emotions get the better of us. The most powerful words you can use when you're wrong, are I’m sorry. Be good to others, and yourself. I always say be kind you can't rewind once it's out there, it's there forever and for some it stays with them for a lifetime. No matter how hard things are for you, remember how hard things could be. In Alberta Canada 500 people die a year from suicide. In BC the total was almost 600 people last in 2018. Individuals aged 30 to 59 accounted for just over 50% of those deaths. The highest rate of suicides fall in the age group of 50- 65. Remember the elderly, call them, video chat with them. Keep them in the loop, it happens often that we forget our elderly family members, friends and neighbors, we are all so busy living our lives. Mental illness can happen to anyone, any time and at any age, it can be from child hood trauma, domestic violence, sexual abuse, loss of a loved one, a job, a home, a pet, a physical accident or injury, even a chemical imbalance found in the brain. Healing takes time, therapy, and sometimes medication. Just remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel, we are not alone. To some with mental illness you always feel alone, even in a crowded room or surrounded by family, What can help? friends, support systems, a good counselor that is one of the biggest keys, having someone to talk to. Loneliness kills, and with Covid it's been especially tough for some, those that do not have partners, those that live alone. Check on your friends and family. So often there are no signs, people suffering from mental illness are good at hiding it. You ask them, how are you? and they will smile and tell you great! The look of depression is different for everyone. When someone says they need help, take them seriously. Too often people suffer because there is no help, or they are too afraid to ask for help. The medical systems are overwhelmed, sending people away due to lack of room or beds. Our population soars to greater heights each year in Canada not to mention there is a greater need for funding availability. Western Canada has not caught up with many countries that take mental health far more seriously. Germany, and Switzerland have a far better handle on helping people with depression, and mental health problems, Brazil, and India are close seconds. Money is such a dirty word when it comes to proper Mental Healthcare, this needs to change, money shouldn't matter in these situations, getting help shouldn't be about insurance, and how much money you have. Mental health is not prejudice, it cares nothing about your wallet or bank account. Lack of care isn’t necessarily the fault of our therapists, or counselor’s, there are just more people in need then there are professionals. The average waiting period for help in the USA is 90 days. With technology and the internet there are many affordable solutions, ReGain, Talkspace and BetterHelp offer qualified therapists at affordable prices. Some even offer grants and help for low income families. Suicide hotlines help thousands of people every day. Another problem that mental health patients face is the stigma, we can’t pretend to live in a perfect world, there are good doctors and counselors and sometimes bad ones, never forget you are in charge of your mental health, your therapy and recovery. Mental health advocates are available. If you don’t feel safe or comfortable with the person caring for you.

Banana Bread
Banana Bread Ready in 1 ½ hours Serves~ 6 people I believe that recipes are guidelines, these can be switched and changed, I grew up with a very hard working mother, gone from morning to dark every day to support our family of 4. Yet she always had time to back for our school lunches. I miss those days, don't we all? The simplicity of being a child, where our only responsibility was to clean our rooms and put our laundry in the hamper. My fondest memories were of me and my mother, on sick days. She would wait until my two sisters were gone to school and me being the slow poke of her three girls, she would look at me and say, "You look sick." with a smile on her face. I remember the excitement, knowing what those words would bring. She would put on her vinyl, Loverboy, or Bob Segar, sometimes a bit of Red Rider, but most fondly I remember the Beatles, and crank the knob. Mouthwatering peanut butter cookies! My job was to press the fork into each one making tail criss cross markings. I remember the joy of opening my lunch box and seeing that shiny apple and those hand made cookies. It's a tradition I kept with my son. Who doesn't need a sick day here and there? Banana bread was rare in our house, we were on a budget and with three girls there were rarely any bananas left. But that thick warm bread with butter melting down our fingers still so fresh in my mind. It's a memory I hold so dearly. Now as I was saying above recipes are guidelines, change it up, add walnuts, or raisins, my partner loves chocolate chips in his. It's personal when we bake, these recipes are more than just recipes. They are words of love, personal gifts we give our children, family and friends. It's almost like magic, a pinch of this and a dollop of that, mix it up with a smile. Don't get me started on how it filled our homes with blissful smells that will stay with us for a lifetime. Food is for sharing, when you give someone food, it is saying I love you, and I want to give you something of myself.
