I see myself here, and then I am not. My reflection in the mirror, the print of my body in my bed, my blankets out of place, my coffee bag drying on my kitchen counter, left over boiled water in my pot… My mind on you and my heart in your hands. Therefore, I am here, and I am not.

My heart smiles before it cries when I think of you. You caught me by surprise, oh what a surprise you were. When I found out I was carrying you, I immediately became scared; not scared to be your mom but scared you had felt all of my pain and sadness the weeks you were unknown to me.

"Castle, in The Grasp"
She has done it again, the same she does every day, as she approached the door, she thinks to herself, "I made it on time" in confirmation to fulfill her need to please. Everyday exactly at 6:30 am, 14-year-old Somarah makes it to her back door after going through a series of steps she has manufactured into a morning routine consisting of the usual personal hygiene tasks, but not limited to steps to prevent Somarah from experiencing an internal meltdown.
