Em seemed different since the procedure. She hadn't spoken since she awoke from surgery and was reserved in her movements, only muted head nods or shakes to indicate her opinion. The doctor had said that it was normal for her to be slightly delirious for a few days. "Think of it like a sort of aftershock from the anesthesia. She's undergone a real transformation with this procedure, and it's not uncommon for it to take a little while for the dust to settle, as they say. She'll be back to her chatty self before you know it. Just be patient.”

2022: The Year of the Mom Cuddles
Let's just get this out of the way: Being a mom is exhausting. It is unending, and for all its magic and reward, the job is relentless. It is highly criticized, lonely and mentally, spiritually, and physically taxing. It's easy to get caught up in reaching milestones, always looking to "What's next?" The loneliness can drive one to Instagram where the picture of motherhood is painted in a filtered light only leading to further isolation, and every person seems to have an opinion about what being a good mother means.

Maxwell
My husband rescued Maxwell at an adoption event in 2012 before we were married. At the event, while all the other dogs vied for potential owners' attention, pawing and barking, Max just sat quietly in his corner, side-eying his crate mate who had just peed all over the shared kennel. That look cemented it--this was our dog. He presented himself as mild-mannered and shy. The people running the event told my husband that he was a cuddler, that he hated to be alone and would need to sleep next to someone. Sure, okay. We can handle that. Besides, he seems so chill and easy-going. Ha! He fooled us for sure.

A Fall Trap
Welcome to October. We hope that you will enjoy your stay. I'm your activities liaison and I'm here to give you a brief overview of what you can expect during your time with us. As you can see, we're incredibly busy. Most people wait all year for us to visit, and by the time we finally come around, the elation at our arrival is palpable. As I'm sure you're aware by now, we've started opening our doors in mid-September because most people find they simply cannot do it all in 31 days. You're coming in late, so we'll want to fast track you so that you don't miss a thing.
