Serengeti Laughter
"He-hey, Spot? You-you wanna hea-hear a j-j-joke?" asked Laughter. Usually, she spoke much more fluidly, but the unending heat of the dry season had started to have an impact on her brain as water became harder to find. They needed to reach the nearest waterhole. Fast. But Laughter was the boss; she would set the pace and direction. All Spot could do was follow and try to keep the matriarch on course indirectly. Even when she wasn't in top shape, he wouldn't dare risk openly questioning her or trying to influence her. That's just how the hierarchy went. He was way too low on the hyena pecking order to try disagreeing with the leader.

Baker’s Dozen: Top 13 Vocal Reads in January 2023
Let’s try this again… I suppose it's now or never... In 2022, I attempted to make such lists as this - for a few months. After that, I was quickly overwhelmed with therapy, a new temp job that took up many hours for many months, and then by the end of the year I just didn’t see the point in picking it back up and was too tired to do so anyway. It’s actually why I’m still making such posts in 2023 for last year. Maybe. It is getting a tad late to cover 2022 favorites, hm? Maybe I should just call it quits for last year's favorites.

The Suffering Stranded (Disturbing Content Warning: Animal Deaths and Decomposition)
Charlie looked up at the sun shining so brightly overhead, desperate for the sight of a plane. Days before - less than a week, he figured - he'd lost bearing while flying his small plane over the notorious Bermuda Triangle. His plane had gone down in the shallows just off the small, tropical island; there had been no place to properly land on the shoreline then. He'd been stranded, alone, without radio or proper supplies, ever since.

The Paleontologist and the Pilot
Tommy gasped for air as he broke the water's surface. Only minutes ago, he had been flying his small plane over the same water. An unexpected collision with a flock of seabirds disabled the engines, and down he and his plane went. Not all was lost, however; he'd gone down just off of a small, tropical island. Slowly, he swam to the island, clamoring on with great gasps from his labor. As he lay, face against the sandy shore, a shadow approached, until it was standing over him.

Baker’s Dozen: Favorite 13 Eco-Friendly Product Swaps (2022)
I'll admit; in 2022, I didn't do as well as previous years in curbing my carbon footprint! It wasn't for a lack of trying, but rather just me saying, "I need to catch up". The thing about making eco-friendly choices is that, a lot of the time, it takes a great deal more time than just buying a commercially-produced product. Especially if, like me, you usually DIY and make homemade versions.
