History Repeats Herself
We all have heard and sometimes actually believed the term history repeats itself. We see it all around us. From small things like fashion making the rounds over and over again, to a timeline of what we do throughout history. The ideal thought is that it’s to prompt change within our society. Usually a change for the better. As a woman living through the rise of another women’s liberation movement, as this year is now being deemed “The Year of the Woman”, are we not looking at the repeat of history?

Dating in Your Thirties
Welcome to the world of “adult” dating, or so it should be. Anyone at any age knows that in this society there’s only one real way to find dates. Between working one, or in my case two jobs, raising a child, and taking care of my dog, a social life is pretty much non-existent to me. Online dating is the real name of the game folks. And there is no shortage of easy apps to join in the dating pool.

Mommy Not So Dearest Part 3
Learning just how deep all the hiding and the lies went with my mother, couldn’t have come at a worse time in my life. We were all still grieving the traumatic loss of my dad. Never be the type to keep her opinions to herself, the most recent elections were going on with Trump and Hillary in the running.

Mommy Not So Dearest Part 2
Needless to say the affair I was trying to stay out of didn’t end. But my very early and young marriage did end, unfortunately. I moved from St. Louis back home to Minnesota to stay with my family during the separation period, which only dragged me into the whole mess of things further.

Mommy Not so Dearest Part 1
I always loved the words used in The Crow movie, “Mother means God in the mouths of children.” That always resonated with me from such a tender age on. In my opinion, some mothers just aren’t meant to be mothers. They lack the really important part that a mother should have. The nurturing that comes from being a mother. That unconditional love only a mother can have for a child no matter if they are perfect or not, no matter what age they are, no matter how successful they are or not. Isn’t that the definition of unconditional love? It literally says it in the word, there are no conditions to it whatsoever.

Life As an Empath
We are all born with some sense of empathy. Children cry easily to movies, situations that don’t directly affect them, and they sense other’s emotions as their own. For some people though, that strong sense of empathy never fades. Some see it as a very special gift. It’s even been noted as superhuman. Others consider it a massive curse, something that’s completely irritating and overwhelming.

The Grieving Process
My memorial weekend was rather uneventful in 2016. My parents went off to visit my brother and sister-in-law in Colorado over the holiday, and my son and I were looking over the farm for them while away. Sitting peacefully on the back steps listening to the birds chanting back and forth, I felt blissful. That feeling didn’t last long.
