The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 11)
Chapter Eleven The boys were lucky. When they finally made it to the small movie theatre, the doors were just being opened for the late afternoon show with the first movie being a cowboy movie that had played here before. They bought their tickets for the double feature, then a drink, a packet of Jaffa lollies and a choc-top ice cream each. They then decided to wait out most of the first movie in the foyer, at least until it was almost over; then they would go in, find a seat, and while everyone else was outside during intermission, they would settle in.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 10)
Chapter Ten After Sergeant Bailey had left, the boys helped Jake straighten out his campsite and clean up the mess of broken glass and plastic from the shattered lights and tail lights, before they all sat down beneath the canvas shelter.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 9)
Chapter Nine Jake didn’t know what time it was when he awoke, or should that be, when he regained consciousness? He knew that something had happened last night, but as he lay face down in the sandy patch of dirt just near his shelter, looking at his disheveled campsite and the back of his van, he couldn’t remember what it had been.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 7)
Chapter 7 When their next visit to Jake’s campsite eventuated the boys were to be disappointed as there was no sign of Jake or his van. They could still see his shelter set up amongst the trees, so they rode over to see if he might have left a message or something. He hadn’t mentioned anything about being away when they had last seen him.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 6)
Chapter Six When Danny had finished telling Jake everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours, from his finding his step-father at home when he got there himself yesterday, to his being caught in the shed, then to what had happened today when he had arrived home, he could see a frown etched across the forehead of his new friend.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 4)
Chapter 4 The boys enjoyed their morning with Jake, who produced the promised beers, which he and Nate sipped, while Danny selected a Coca-Cola. They were given a good look at the car, got to stick their head under the bonnet and inspect the 253v-8 motor and all its chromed bits and bobs, sit behind the wheel in the soft bucket seats with the motor purring, then put their foot down hard on the accelerator, which deafened them. The plumes of dust billowing out from behind the van, obviously churned up by the twin downward curved chrome exhausts, was icing on the cake.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 3)
Chapter Three They found Pat and Thomas down by the beach later that afternoon and suddenly their friends wanted to know everything they could find out about Jake, despite the fact they had scurried away at the first sighting of him earlier in the day. Nate and Danny were ready for them, however, as they knew that their families would be trying to extract as much information as they could.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 2)
Chapter Two It wouldn’t be until a few days after his set-to with his mother before Danny would speak with Jake again. He had seen him from a distance a few times on previous days as Jake surfed the breaks off the main beach and he had marveled at Jake’s skill as he ducked and dived and danced across the breaking waves. He had marveled, too, at the beauty of the young man, as if he were now noticing the beauty of the male body for the very first time.

The Seventeenth Summer
Chapter 1 The boys heard the sound of the vehicle long before they saw it. The deep, throaty, burble of the v-8 motor reverberated around the township, the sound bouncing off any solid surface, even before the vehicle itself had come around that last bend in the road before the shopping centre.
