Revisiting 'Her'
I want to take a moment to appreciate the brilliance of Her. Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson as the voice of Samantha, we follow a man as he falls in love (and out of love) with a computer designed to fulfill his specific needs. The story that Jonze tells is original and profound, yet does not seem far off from the world we live in today. Everywhere I go I am speed-walking past folks with their eyes on their phones, moving at a glacial pace.

Day-cationing in the Finger Lakes
I went to school in upstate New York (Cornell University, to be exact--GO RED). Even though a good portion of it involved slaving away for hours on papers and walking up icy slopes just to get to class and discuss whale mating sounds (sit in on Oceanography 101, I dare you), I miss it endlessly.

'Patriots Day' Review
An all-star cast tells the action-packed story that is Patriots Day. Starring Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, J. K. Simmons, and Michelle Monaghan, the film follows the lives of those effected by the bombings that took place on April 15, 2013 in Boston. From the police officers to the marathon runners, we see how this one day changed everything for so many.

"La La Land" Review
La La Land is the most enchanting and whimsical movie I’ve seen in a very long time. I’ll admit, I go to the movies a lot, but rarely do I feel so much escapism as I felt while sitting in my local Regal Cinema, falling in love with this film. Directed by Damien Chazelle (Whiplash), La La Land will make your heart ache, and make you smile, feeling nostalgic for the authentic movie musical, unlike the NBC live productions.

'Hidden Figures' Review
Gender, race, and professional barriers are broken in Hidden Figures, a historical drama that tells the story of the women who majorly contributed to the mission of assisting John Glenn’s orbit around the earth, making him the first American astronaut to do so. Directed by Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent) and produced by several including Pharrell Williams, Hidden Figures is an upbeat and inspiring movie that will hopefully be included in the upcoming Academy nominations.

"Jackie" Film Review
Natalie Portman stars in the biopic entitled Jackie, which revolves around the days following the assassination of John Kennedy. A national tragedy is made very public, as it was a personal tragedy changing the everyday life of Jackie, a grief-stricken mother whose worst nightmare was aired on television and published everywhere for the world to see.

Animal House is on Netflix and You Should Watch it if You Haven't Seen It
It may be the fact that six months have gone by since I graduated from Cornell. It may be the fact that Animal House is now on Netflix and I've watched it every other day. Or, maybe, it's the fact that college is cinematic in nature in so many ways.

Best Movie Musical Adaptations
I've argued many times that movie musicals stand the test of time, and also are the greatest form of escapism. Where else would upwards of 100 people know every choreographed move to a dance sequence (outside of the theater, of course)? And it's hard not to sing along to the happy tunes that uplift characters, and gape at the talents of Gene Kelly, Barbra Streisand, and Robert Preston.

Best New York Based Television Shows
The greatest city in the world is New York; there’s no other place that could come close. As a film and culture junkie, some of my favorite films (and the greatest films of all time) take place in this great city. As someone who also lived and worked in this amazing city, I can confirm how it offers a variety of life, and every train ride in makes the new day feel like an adventure, even the grumpiest of Mondays somehow get better when I see the skyline as my train passes through the Meadowlands of New Jersey.
