A Four Legged Find at the Discount Store
Everyone loves a bargain when they are shopping. I have been frequenting the local discount store just minutes from my home for years now. This large two level store conveniently located in downtown Albany, N.Y. offers quite an array of items from cleaning & household products, cosmetics, jewelry & hair care, a modest clothing section, accessories to odds n ends; even furniture & carpeting on the second floor. It is a practical one stop shop with just about everything you will ever need under one roof; a definite bang for your bank type of deal. I always find what I need along with neat surprises as the store is always updating with new items.

How 7 Carpenter’s Songs Soothe My Soul
Everyone has a different approach to relaxation and whichever method one chooses to reach that “Ahh” moment of perfect Zen is a personal decision. The options are endless. Some people like natural sounds of calming ocean waves or tropical forest torrents. Others prefer more upbeat rhythms associated with drumming or maybe even animal sounds like birds chirping in their natural habitat. The types of music triggering the big “let go” is just as diversified and unique as we all are as individuals. My personal happy session sparks off with 70’s music specifically of the brother/ sister duo: The Carpenters.

10 British Phrases That Most Americans Will Not UnderstandTop Story - March 2021
I live in the state of New York and have spent most of my life living in the United States; however, I am originally from England. I was born on a US military base in the United Kingdom making me a dual citizen. My mother is British and my father, an American who she met when he was stationed overseas. I clearly remember being three years old when my father got out of the service moving us from the State of Virginia to settle in his home state of Massachusetts.

Over the Moon
Alex dropped down onto all fours and circled the group of frat boys standing outside the bar barking at the top of her lungs. She lifted her right leg and symbolically urinated on the chatty one’s ankle. All hyped up she finished off with a quick hop to her feet ripping down her black leggings to bare her derriere. She then readjusted her pants and her girlfriend Siobhan grabbed her hand to steady her balance. A small group of curious onlookers recording the incident with their cell phones cheering as the pair scurried away from the scene. The loving couple were tired of the continuous harassment by this group of immature college boys and the disparaging comment “You are too beautiful to be lesbians” were words Alex could no longer ignore.

Celebrating the Vocals of Lisa Fischer
When we think of all the dominant African American female voices in music, the mention of first names like Aretha, Whitney and Tina get instant recognition. The truth is that there is a powerhouse of other female singers providing background vocals who do not receive the same consideration as their frontrunner counterparts... Today, I am recognizing a woman spending years in the music industry both as a backbone for other artists, and as an incredibly fierce soloist. Join me as I celebrate the vocals of Lisa Fischer.

An Anti-Love Playlist for the Single Ladies
Ladies, raise your hand if you are single! I know it can feel very lonely at times and there are days when you probably think to yourself how nice it would be to have someone by your side. February 14th is the cruel reminder that none of us (Yes I am a member of your tribe) need denoting our solo status. Instead of jamming up in the holiday hype, I thought it would be interesting perhaps even fun to explore a different approach to Valentine’s Day.

Guilty As Charged: Confessions of a Chicago PD Binger
I am not ashamed to admit that I love watching Chicago PD. When I began viewing the series it had been airing already for a few years so I wanted to go back and catch up. A couple of weeks ago I was checking out Peacock, a free streaming app, and was pleasantly surprised to find every episode available going back to day one. I have been binge watching about 3 episodes daily and am proud to call Chicago PD my guilty sometimes cringe worthy pleasure.

A One Legged Cat Suit Has No Home in My Closet
There has certainly been a lot of interesting fashion trends over the years. Some statements seem to keep recycling through the decades like those who are mad for plaid or the hippie tie dye trend. I can tolerate those in small doses and personally have indulged. Other fads like Uggs which I cannot stand and have never owned, and the low sagging pants with half the derriere exposed get no love from me. Overall, the cringe worthy fringe seen on everything from purses to clothing articles is just about the worse thing I have ever seen, second only to the one legged cat suit.

My Post Splenectomy Wellness Guide
Do you know that there are an estimated 1 million people living in the United States today that are hypo splenic (have a low functioning spleen) or are asplenic (without a functioning spleen)? I am one of those people as I had a complete splenectomy performed on February 03, 2020. This has been a difficult transition for me and as I approach the one year mark of living life without an organ while not considered essential poses some serious risks and complications in its absence. With a combination of personal research and guidance by my primary care physician and hematologist I have come up with my own particular wellness guide. Kicking off 2021, I am much more conscious of my overall health. I share my information not as a medical professional but as a patient speaking from experience. Before I talk about my approach to maintaining optimal health, I will cover the splenic basics.
