Where the Chips May Fall
Drips of condensation streamed down the glass of bourbon as he swirled it around, observing it as if it were crystal ball revealing forbidden knowledge. Cora coyly watched him from behind the bar, intrigued with the unusual man who had come in for the second night in a row. It was rare to see a new face in the quaint town this time of the year. Snow, blizzards, and monotony encompassing the small waterfront community that only came to life in with hordes of tourists in the summer. As of now Lake Winnisquam, normally the focal piece of the place, was just a mass of shimmering frozen ice.

Sociedade do Touro Furioso
The city was wonderfully atmospheric, from its dark cobbled lanes to its monumental cathedral. Rising majestically from the Rio Modengo, the lively city was steeped with history dating back to the Moorish times. Coimbra, Portugal’s medieval capital for more than a century and home to the countries oldest and most prestigious university. At night the old stone walls of the city reverberated with the melancholy notes of proverbial guitars and the evocative voices of fado singers.

Circo delle Sogni Perduti
A whirlwind of orange, auburn, and golden leaves danced through the somber downtown. Just a decade back Halloween had been a revered tradition in the community. Shops taking pride in decorating for the ghoulish season, households competing for the scariest yard in the neighborhood, everyone in costume. Parties, parades, and porch lights on galore. Things change so quickly; one might miss it if they blink. The past few years, Halloween coming and going with hardly anyone noticing. A shoddy cling of a witch or ghost affixed in a window or two, a jack-o’-lantern half-heartily carved in between emails and internet scrolling, perhaps a mask or a puerile costume bought in haste, with hardly a porch light to be seen.

The Toadstoolz
The backstage area was stifling, possessing an aroma of musty pizza and perpetual body odor. We sat on the splitting leather chairs, anxiety and excitement trickling from our hearts. I never thought someone like me would end up in band, especially with my two best friends. My life usually banal and my talents few and far in-between. All that changed after unearthing a peculiar package in my backyard one midsummer night.

Spaceship of Mistaken Identity
He bolted into the dining room, saturated in a metallic grey slime resemblant of adamantine. Zolo, my best friend since childhood, never avoided getting himself into wild shenanigans. Often putting himself in some sticky situations, yet I had never seen such a look of alarm upon his face. I put down the rag I had been using to clean up the mess of guacamole that the child of a customer had decided to utilize as paint, the table his canvas.

Dearest François
The crickets and toads joined together in a jovial nighttime symphony on that balmy summer night. Carmela sat in her room reading studiously as she often did, hoping to not have any confrontations with her father. Even turning off the light and tucking herself into bed didn’t deter him from sometimes barging in. She winced as she heard the floor of the hallway creak under her father’s step. Hearing the ice cubes clink into a class, the unscrewing of the cap to the bottle. He mumbled inane and obscene profanities that she attempted to tune out.

Tokyo was a wonderland teeming with neon lights, shining adamantine towers, and the promise of unfamiliar excitement and opportunities. This held even more true for a young foreign woman being away from home for the first time in her twenty-one years. The Small Organic Herban Garden
Living in the middle of a city can sometimes makes it difficult to spend sufficient time among nature. Having recently moved to a new place, I was overjoyed to a have an outside area that I could turn into a plant sanctuary. Though small, I have maximized space by choosing the majority of my plants specifically for their unique abilities, whether as an amazing addition in culinary applications, for their remarkable health benefits, or to keep pests away. Gardening in general is excellent for one’s physical and emotional health, while creating a unique space filled with the plants and décor of ones choosing provides a serene space to enjoy.
