2008 Recession!
Recessions in the US Economy. Mortgages, Banks Essentially the 2008 recession occurred because banks got greedy and lent money to people to buy houses who they knew couldn’t afford it. However, they took those loans and sold them as a financial package to different banks, and international markets because the rating agencies considered them super safe investments, and more dumb insurance companies basically promised to cover loans if something went wrong and so it all seemed perfect until it wasn’t. And since they loaned money for homes people couldn’t afford the borrowers were unable to pay back their loans for a variety of reasons. However, one of these reasons were their mortgages which were on adjustable rates meaning as the interest rates rose people’s mortgages got higher and they couldn’t afford those mortgages anymore causing the borrowers to default on their payments. And this trickled down as a domino effect impacting banks, insurance companies, wall street, and every player and non-player involved who were eventually bailed out by the government by taxpayers like you and me.
