Cabo San Lucas Part 1
The first time I went to Cabo San Lucas was back in May of 2019. I went with three other friends. We went through the process of buying our plane tickets, secured ourselves and Airbnb and rented a vehicle to get around in. Everything was smooth sailing for our flight to Cabo. We saved money flying out of Tijuana which was about a two hour drive from Los Angeles, Ca. To enhance the experience a bit more we chose to stay in Tijuana the night before our flight. I found a hotel casino which I thought was a great way to jumpstart the vacation. Hotel Pueblo Amigo Plaza and Casino was perfect for all our needs. It accommodated our late night arrival, as we were traveling from L.A. and we elected to wait till the major traffic died down a bit. Check in was a breeze, front desk was very helpful and though we all speak English and Spanish the person checking us in spoke both languages. Our stay came with free breakfast in the morning which would be a big help getting something in our stomachs before our flights. Since we checked in late at night most of the restaurants were already closed but as luck would have it a taco stand right across the street from the hotel was still open, therefore the four of us practically ran out there. The food at the stand was excellent, between us we had tacos, burritos and tortas. there are plenty more items on the menu. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. Once done with our meal we went back to our hotel and did some gambling at the slot machines inside the hotel. The next day we all got up and discovered the hotel provided a ride to the airport which was not too far away. Going through the Tijuana Airport was quick and easy with no issues. The flight itself was on time and very quick, just under two hours. When you arrive in Cabo and do not need to go to baggage claim, you are immediately ushered outside. Since we had rented a car we looked around a bit till we found our rental. Once we found the spot we headed over there and began the process. I had rented through Princeline and had done it all online. Little did I know it was filled with hidden fees that far surpassed what I had paid on the site already. It took a while but we got through the process of getting a car. After the car was finally in our procession we drove out to our Airbnb. The drive from the airport to town was about forty minutes and our rental was close to the downtown area without begging right on top of it, The entire process of getting into the house and interacting with the owner was completely simple and easy without drama or hidden fees like the car rental. The home was wonderful and spacious and best of all we were practically alone. The home was a expanding development with several houses both built and finished and the rest were in the process of being finished. At the gate of the housing community there was a gate you need to go past to security guards and show proper identification. Needless to say I for one felt extremely safe. There was both a Walmart and a Costco and we shopped for all our food and drinks and went home to pack our frig and explore. Our group visited a few beaches and went into town often and experienced the freedom to go anywhere we wanted. The experience the group and myself had was fantastic and the memories we took home with us will last our lifetime. Having those fond memories in place from our time there made it all the easier to say yes to going back when the opportunity presented itself nearly a year later, I eagerly agreed. The dates were chosen, the hotel deposit was put down as well and we were well on our way. For the second time out there my partner and I elected to try something different from the first time. We agreed to stay at an all inclusive location and find a spot in the center of town. Learning from the first time, an all inclusive hotel would remove the extra trips to the store to pick up and then have to cook food. Choosing a spot in the middle of town was to not have to deal with the whole car rental fiasco from the time before. We also learned from the first time that we had spent much more time downtown, it would be a waste of money renting and dealing with a car company if in getting the hotel in the center of town would eliminate even needing the car to begin with. The added bonus was also not having to select a designated driver each time we went out, this way we could be in the center of all the action. It took searching but we found out which resorts offer transportation and which do not. Settling in on the Marina Fiesta Resort Hotel and Spa. All the items on our list were being quickly checked off. The group was mentally pace ready to go, then COVID happened and the world shut down.
This is how we do it
Trips to Las Vegas are always a blast no matter what time of the year one goes. From the age of twenty one to now that I'm forty four I have always enjoyed my trips out there. I have traveled alone, with friends and relatives and each trip has taught me something valuable that I know I will carry with me and implement on future trips. We are well aware that when taking the road trip out to sin city, while fun and exciting can also be a bummer of sorts on that long four hour trip back hungover and penniless. Over the years I have picked up a few tips that have saved me a bundle over time.
For this past 4th of July weekend my partner and I chose to head out to Palm Springs, Ca. Neither one of us is really into fireworks and the previous year we had taken a spur of the moment trip to Pala, Ca. We stayed at the Pala Hotel and Casino and enjoyed everything from the slots, to the pool, the food and most definitely the entertainment. Well into the pandemic, the world had only just begun to open up. Precautions were most assuredly a must, with temperature upon entry and masks that were required to be worn at all times unless eating or drinking only to be quickly placed back on the face. Our trip that year was so much fun and highly enjoyable but that is another story for another time. This time is Palm Springs and as luck would have it we were again near another casino.
A few years ago my partner and I took our very first international trip together. It was a few days and we had researched it high and low to find ourselves the biggest bang for our limited bucks. We had such a wonderful time with our group that now finally this year after an entire long year of quarantine five of us are finally in a position to enjoy some time in paradise. My partner and I have taken many trips, but far the most interesting ones we take are the trips we are overall prepared for. There is a period of research for deals and discounts. He and I search for as many options as we possibly can within our budget and then decide based on how far out to a location we would like to travel. A heavy influence on culinary delights is highly favored. My partner and I lead both a ketogenic (me) and low carb (him) lifestyle, therefore when we are on vacation or out of town food is absolutely something we will be experimenting with.
Work in Progress
It was later than usual when we departed on our next adventure. It had been two weeks since our Las Vegas blackout. I was in a turmoil fighting down panic attacks leading up to the day. The benefit of this trip was that we were in the company of a group of friends and family. Therefore any time alone seemed like it would be out of the question. I was traveling with my cousin this time and due to the fact that she was a teacher preparing for her upcoming year, we could not leave till the late evening hours. I had spent much of the morning locating floating devices for four of us due to the fact that the rental I was supposed to have been in was extracted once the owner realized he's lost interest and would not be attending the Regatta with us. I was not made aware of this till midnight the night before when I was at his house looking at his pathetic puppy dog face deciding to now charge me $200.00 for deposit and rental for what originally was going to be free. I and suddenly very irritated by the change in events is told him to go fuck himself and took my tired ass home and straight to bed. The next morning I took myself to two different Big 5s and paid $45.00 each for two rafts that were not only two seaters but they each had an inflatable cooler in between I was relieved that something had actual been found at the last minute.
Las Mata Maridos
I wanted to take a moment to tell you a bit about myself before we delve into the countless stories that will follow. My name is Arlene Sanabria. Born and raised in East Los Angeles, California, 90022 and the barrio life is like a prison tattoo of goals and dreams. One may not know how they are going to achieve their dreams and it definitely will not happen the way it would if you were from Beverly Hills, California 90210. It can happen nonetheless, it will just have a spanglish way of becoming reality. I have always lived for storytelling both telling my own and listening to someone else. Growing up, I wrote a great deal of stories but not until my thirties did I write what has become the great love of my life. Looking back on it now I was searching for something that I could not pinpoint exactly. That certain thing that drives an individual to be creative in their passion no matter what that passion may be and I was at a point in life where I was lacking that spark. Then one random weeknight all that changed one night and "The Women" were born.
Dropping the Bomb
Amanda's POV I was feeling more and more confident about offering Joaquin the partnership. I had made a pros and cons list of anything I could think of and the thorn in my side causing sleepless nights was the very real possibility of giving up what was looking to be at the very least a few rounds of good sex (going by the most recent encounter.) or if I was really reaching into the depths of a unicorns' ass and dare I say something more long term. That one detail lingered in my head for a few weeks. We were texting with regularity and everything was gelling very well. We agreed to meet up at another favorite dive bar of mine called Embers. The place is very low key and a secret spot of sorts, attracting a variety of people of different ages. Its dim lighting and fun sexy themed quarter vending machines in the bathrooms have me there often with a small stack of quarters just so I can end the night on a high happy note no matter what like a child harassing their parents for coins to use on those old school machines that held spider rings and fake teeth in plastic containers.
Beers and Karaoke
Amanda's POV There are steps in life as individuals we elect to take without knowing the hows or whys behind it. My background in regards to what I do for my boss Devlin whose suggestions as far as potential associates is highly questionable since his only criteria for a writing partner on assignments is how far along their six pack is, naturally makes me very cautious and before I make a choice about someone of his selection which thus far has proven to be disastrous. That is why I have preferred to work alone, but with times getting a bit more violent and a few of the female writers on staff have been stalked, attacked or assaulted over the past couple years the company has made it a policy that we work in teams. I support and accept those policy changes long as I can choose the individual myself. I need to feel it out a few times before I make any concrete decisions about a partner. The night I met Joaquin, even in all that chaos and noise of the bar, I felt jolted with a lightning bolt of motivation as far as presenting this crazy sounding idea to him. He could have taken it any number of ways and if the plan was to embark this journey I thought that in spending more time with him I would be able to identify my comfort level because for me that has always been an issue. As much as my intuition was telling me it was a good idea, my pesky brain works differently. There was so much at stake, errors in judgement were not an option.
