I had dreams for 2020.
Dreams of travel, both near and far. Dreams of finding myself in some foreign landscape previously only seen on television. Dreams of stepping out of the predictability of a corporate role and into a lifestyle I created for myself.
Yesterday I took a 30 minute walk around my neighborhood to take a mental break from work and self-isolation. Since I can't get a normal workout in given the current global crisis, I take walks throughout the day to get moving and let go of stressors. I plug into a podcast and spend 15 - 30 minutes learning about entrepreneurship, how to speak French, or ways to process my thoughts and feelings.
Out here in Los Angeles, it’s strange if you don’t have a side hustle. Most people are musicians, actors, etc. and gig after work or spend their PTO on auditions and shooting movies and tv shows.
Google "work online" and you'll find a whole host of articles touting all the best ways to make money from the comfort on your couch. They make it sound incredibly easy and doable.

Being in debt sucks.
You start living paycheck to paycheck so you’re sure you’ll at least meet the minimum payments. You put off necessary car repairs because you’re afraid they’ll cost too much. Your tires are far more worn than they should be, and you wear those shoes until the soles have holes.
Sometimes I feel like an anomaly. I work a 9-5, run my own business, and spend my free time learning. I listen to world news podcasts, devour personal and professional development books, read up on the history of countries around the world, and spend my television time on shows that stimulate my brain.
