The Lady
Kevin J.N. Hughes 3/14/2021 I’m feeling a tad bit under the weather, and at times like this I’m abundantly glad to be working from home, where I don’t have to worry about getting anyone sick and can work or rest as I need to. While I have been sitting here, I was pondering something that happened to a friend of mine when we were kids. I hope you enjoy this spooky, 100% true ghost story (I have taken the liberty of changing names in the story to protect the family who experienced these things).

Shadow Man At Shumway Park
The Pacific Northwest may not be famous as a hot spot for the paranormal, however, I can tell you that the Northwest is far more haunted than many people realize. I am happy to share my own experiences, and those I am aware of from others.

Perilous Delivery
Chapter 4 First Victim The following morning, both Caleb and Vanessa were tired, Pedro and Macrina had both asked to come sleep in their parents’ bed that evening. They had said that they had seen “the lady” coming. Stella had been growling and barking at various rooms, and whenever Caleb would turn the light on the room would be empty. They were fortunate to have gotten some sleep that evening, however, for the most part their sleep was sporadic at best.

Chapter 3. Housewarming Party That night, the family again piled into the minivan so that they could go to the housewarming party together. Pedro and Macrina would play in the playroom with the Holden’s two younger children, and Caleb and Vanessa would enjoy the company of the adults at the party.

Childhood Ghost Story
I am still working on Perilous Delivery, however, since I was sick this week, I wanted to make sure I still got you guys something, so I decided to write a true story of something that happened when I was a child that helped get me started onto the paranormal.

Perilous Delivery
The next day began like most any other. Caleb often worked on Saturdays as part of his often vain seeming effort to bring in enough cash. As was her custom, Vanessa would make him breakfast before he left, and they would spend a little time together before he worked. As he sat there eating his waffles and sausage, he smiled, “Well,” he began, “I get to try out the new car today, see how she handles the workload.” He smiled and took a bite. Vanessa smiled too, then went back to reading her book. They were pretty tired so there wasn’t much conversation. Caleb finished his meal, put his dishes in the sink, threw on his jacket and started to walk out. As he was leaving their phones dinged, Vanessa looked over, “That is a reminder.” She said, “we are going to the Holdens’ house party tomorrow night.” Caleb looked over and smiled, “Oh yeah, I like the Holden family, nice people.” He began, “Do you want to try and get them a housewarming gift tonight, or on the way tomorrow?” Vanessa thought a moment and said, “We can do it on the way, it’s nothing major, just a bottle of whine or something should do the trick.” Caleb smiled, nodded, and walked out the door.

Perilous Delivery
Chapter 1. A New (to us) Car “Mi esposa,” started Vanessa, in the sweet accent she knew Caleb so adored, “you know your car is a piece of junk at this point, right?” Caleb just sighed, “I know honey, and we will, I’ve just been so…” he labored a moment to find the word, “busy, with everything, you know… but, hey, tomorrow we will okay, it’s a day off for me.” As he said the last phrase, he took a final sip of his coffee from his “Man of God” mug that had been a gift from Vanessa, and walked out, leaving behind an empty plate where his bagel and eggs with a bit of ham had been.

Perilous Delivery Prologue
Prologue: It was a normal day in the tropical paradise of Costa Rica when he met her. Him spending a semester studying abroad. They say that Costa Rica is the most beautiful place on earth. There are more species of butterfly there than in all of Africa. A tiny little country, and yet diverse, glorious, and so full of beauty that nothing can really be compared to it. Yet, that day, he saw her, the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Even more beautiful, I dare say, than Costa Rica itself. Little did either of them know that she was about to end his carefree wayfaring life.
