A Techno Carol (with Apologies to Charles Dickens)
Part IV: Jimmy was trying to sleep again…and he was having some success. The dream was all about him and his favourite game. In some plain room he had never seen, he was playing a game on the Benevolt 2.0 system…and he was on fire.

W.
It is Friday, the last full day of my vacation back with the family in a sleepy little town - okay, Hamilton - with all of my packing almost done. The day was spent on clothes-choosing, book-sorting, food-prepping activities, along with a short run in the old neighbourhood, a little light reading, and observations of the World Juniors (Canada needs to step up its game). I have another Top Story for a longer piece that needs two more chapters (I promise you all they are coming). And I am now happy to report that I have received some extra classes and will be able to relax a little bit around tax time.

Tinderella
I did not choose the name, but I understood why it stuck. I had to handle the case because no one else was available, and I really thought this would all be “open and shut”, as they say. But no, that wasn’t going to happen, not right away. Whenever I try and imagine what my week was going to be like, I end up with so many curve balls that I should reconsider my old dream of being a baseball player.

A Techno Carol (with Apologies to Charles Dickens) - A Story in Five Parts
Part III: Jimmy woke up with shakes and sweat. He looked over at the window pooling the moonlight (not as strong as before). And then he looked over at his desk. All the things that should be there were back. There were no boomboxes, Walkmans or old computer systems. Everything was perfect.

A Very Honest DateTop Story - December 2023
The waitress was very fat and I did not like her hair, but she had a good attitude as she guided me to my seat. The restaurant was not full on a Friday, so I guessed that the concert next door was still on and that it would fill up with people who had terrible taste in music later (the group playing truly sucked). I knew that my name was on the reservation list, but I still had a twenty ready in case she gave me a hassle.

Review: "The Twilight World"
From the very first page of this narrative: Most details are factually correct; some are not. What was important to the author was something other than accuracy, some essence he thought he glimpsed when he encountered the protagonist of this story.

A Techno Carol (with Apologies to Charles Dickens) - A Story in Five Parts
Part II: It was a wonderful rest. Jimmy could not remember the last time he slept that well… “Beep, beep…” That must have been his Android…or tablet? He never used the alarm on his smartwatch or desktop, so he must have…

Part I: “Go to your room!” Dad shouted at him, but it was his mother who was in tears. Jimmy Curtis knew that this was serious when he saw what happened. The presents were being wrapped, and he could have waited in his room…but why bother? His parents knew what he wanted for Christmas, and here it was, Christmas Eve, and they were still getting things ready for the big day. So, why didn’t they get him the system he wanted? Why a stupid-looking 2.0 version of the super Benevolt gaming set? And no extra controllers for it? He had to say something.

Waste Disposal: A Love StoryTop Story - December 2023
A little tale for the Hallmark crew: A long time ago…in a suburb far, far away… Stella could not help herself. All these years later, and here she was, back in the hometown that she promised herself she would not return to unless some special force pushed her in this direction. But here she was, guiding her SUV through the narrow streets of snow, slush and new homes. Well, new-ish homes… She noted that the field where she played soccer was now all mansions and they had built a parking lot and a small jungle gym that she would have loved as a kid. So unfair, she thought, but there was nothing she could do about that.
