The Geek Girl's Favorite: Billy Joel's Albums
My interest in collecting vinyl records began at least three Christmases ago, with my Dad gifting me a handful of Billy Joel's records. At the time, the extent of my original interest in vinyl was only to keep up with my dad's collection he had started sometime before, with hopes in what I might get someday. So, vinyl wasn't anything I had asked for, nor expected at the time. So, the records were a wonderful surprise! Not to mention, Dad and I would travel to see Billy Joel perform in concert at Cleveland, Ohio that next summer—which was even more reason to enjoy them!

The Geek Girl's Guide to Disney's 'Oliver and Company'
My cousin, my sister, and I had a girls day at the mall. Still being kids at heart at 16, 19, and 27-years-old, we found ourselves perusing the Disney store. We wander through a section of plush toys when I recognized Oliver and Dodger among them, both sporting 30th anniversary tags on their paws."Oliver and Company celebrates 30 years this year?" were my first thoughts, “How did I not know this?” One reason might have to do with the 25th anniversaries of the season staples, Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus. Another reason is that Oliver and Company is an underrated classic for several reasons.

The Geek Girl's Recap of 'DWTS' Season 27: Week 8 and the Finale
Move over, Miracle on 34th Street; the twenty-seventh season of Dancing with the Stars just witnessed a “mirrorball miracle” ending! Be a Scrooge or be Buddy the Elf about it, but odds were seriously defied in this season’s win. Finishing big like the show always does, the studio crowds filled the shopping center next door to the ballroom where the intro sequence was performed and a handful of live performances were given throughout the night. Meanwhile, the finalists gave two performances for competition: one was a revisit of a memorable dance to improve original scores, and of course the other was the freestyle routine. Here is more about how Dancing wrapped up:

The Geek Girl's Recap of 'DWTS' Season 27: Week 8 and Semi-Finals
The heat was on as the competition entered the semi-finals week! This was the night to determine who would be in the final four, and who would ultimately become the next champion of the show. No more pressure added with two dances on the slate—one of them being a judge's choice with some rehearsal coaching for improvement. But to say the season was winding down was a gross understatement, as this week’s double elimination had everyone wound up! Here’s what happened:

The Geek Girl's Recap of 'DWTS' Season 27: Week 7 and Country Night
All things country invaded the ballroom this past Monday night in lieu of next week's Country Music Awards! The couples also came together for the group dance challenge this week, and two more were eliminated. Here is your tractor pull of this week’s highlights and commentary:

Live Aid Save the Queen: The Geek Girl's Guide to Music History
What do you get from grouping together an art student with three scientifically educated students, all of whom are also remarkably talented musicians? In the 1970’s, you got Queen; the legends and royalty of rock and pop music with hall of fame notoriety, record sales in the hundred millions, and hits like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You,” and “We are the Champions” that are stone-solid firm in the waves of pop culture tracks. Fast forward fifteen years with the high-profile band, through their album flops, personal dissension, dis-abandonment for individual pursuits, and a general wane in popularity. What do you get when you give them a quite literal stage before the world? You get not only Queen’s resurgence of power, but also their immortality sealed in the entertainment world.

The Geek Girl's Recap of 'DWTS' Season 27, Week 5 and Disney Night
A classic Disney theme song says to wish upon a star for your dreams to come true, and a classic Disney-themed night in America’s Ballroom sees stars dance like a dream while wishing to win the competition. Being week five, they’re almost there, but eliminations have been strange things this season. So, as you whistle while you work or whatever you’re doing, you’ve got a friend in me to show you the whole new world that was last Monday’s Disney night!

The Geek Girl's Recap of 'DWTS' Season 27: Week 3
Dancing got deep and emotional for their "most memorable year" theme night. The night that keeps Kleenex in business saw the stars telling their stories of the wins and losses that led their lives, and portrayed them in dance. With every celebrity doing as well in the ballroom as in their lives, one couple saw the first perfect score of the season, two couples made their personal best scores for the season so far, and overall everyone has grown and improved in their ballroom skills. Here are the highlights of last Monday night:

The Geek Girl's Recap of 'DWTS' Season 27: Week 2
Big city lights bedazzled America’s Ballroom as October’s primetime television season began. Monday night, the Big Apple was brought to the ballroom as the twelve remaining stars danced to NYC-titled tracks, or against NY city-fied set pieces portraying hotspots like Grand Central Station, the Statue of Liberty, or the skyline in general. Tuesday night traded east coast for west coast with Las Vegas ambiance, a luck of the draw free of elimination this week, and special guest performances from Vegas favorites like Donny Osmond, Boyz II Men, and Blue Man Group. Having just unpacked metaphorical travel bags and the performances on the whole, here are the details from this week’s trip of two shows:

The Geek Girl's Recap of 'DWTS' Season 27: Week 1
Dancing with the Stars graced fall’s primetime television again last Monday, September 24th as its 13 celebrities graced America’s ballroom for the first time this season. With the cumulation of viewer votes on Tuesday night, five dancing couples were chosen to dance a redemptive routine that improved upon their initial performances and possibly save one of them from elimination as online voting was reopened for a short time before the end of the show. Here is your Geek Girl’s commentary on performances and results from this week’s Dancing:
