Donovan's Barn
Trenton and Rachel had moved away from Taftsville 15 years earlier. They had both attended Taftsville High School and after their senior year had moved to the city to attend college. They dated throughout their college years; on one warm spring night Trenton proposed and Rachel eagerly accepted. Though they had married young, they had made a good life for themselves and their two children, twin daughters who were now 12 years old.

My Son Became a Dad
When kids are babies, we dream of the day that they will walk and talk. We look forward to all the milestones that they will reach as they travel through to their adult years. When they are in elementary school we look forward to high school; when they are in high school, we look forward to them going to college or starting a job. We beam with pride with each accomplishment and our hearts are a little bit saddened when they encounter bumps along their path. For me, perhaps the greatest wish I had for my son was that someday he would find a nice girl with whom he could make a life and have a family.

The Child
Tessa jolted awake and looked around her. There was a camo net inches above her head, she was outdoors and the ground beneath her was damp and cool, making her minimal clothing dirtier and damper than they already were. She rolled onto her stomach to get a better view of exactly where she was. The air was acrid with the aftermath of the bomb, piles of rubble smoldered. Now she remembered. She had crept in close last night when she saw the bomb go off. She needed food and a recently bombed out village was the best source. She wasn’t the only one who would be thinking this. Many people her age were doing this as well. They were basically running for their lives as fugitives because they had broken away from the insurrectionists.

I Found My Soul Mate
Introduction We met in an online group; a chat room. He was one of many whose words scrolled upward on my screen and disappeared quickly. There were dozens of other lonely souls here all looking for friendship. Or, maybe they were looking for something more. To be completely honest, I wasn’t sure why I was even there except that I desperately needed a social life of some kind and in that current situation this was the best I could do.
