The Runcorn Headless Horseman
As a resident of Runcorn, Cheshire; I, Joseph Roy Wright, have heard many dark rumors about my remote home town. There are many myths and legends hiding within this unsuspecting town. I have already written about the haunted house in Bryon Street, yet there is another horror far greater, that you must know of. That is The Headless Horseman of Stockham Lane. Now the legend of this mysterious knight may sound familiar to you, but be-headings in medieval England, especially during battles, were incredibly common. Runcorn has it's history of knighthood, there is even an ancient castle that still stands to this very day. Some residents of Runcorn have seen strange sightings at this so called Halton Castle, past the time of midnight and especially around the season of Halloween. It is here where people have seen ghostly knights or other medieval warriors, along with un-explainable shouts and unseen battles, booming from behind the castle walls. Like these long forgotten wars are still going on. Echoes of medieval times still haunt this castle deeply, it is from this myth that many believe the headless horseman comes from. As the headless knight has been spotted atop the castle's roofs, staring down upon the living, before vanishing at dawn.

Jaws Of Death
Deep below the ocean, terror awaits. It can be a beautiful place, full of pretty sea life, however there is still plenty to fear, the deeper you dive. Upon the bottom of the sea, there are hideous creatures like something out of a nightmare. Fish with the faces of demons, eyes big and grotesque and fangs larger than horns. It is not just within the oceans where fierce beasts live, but it is also in swamplands where alligators and crocodiles lurk, preying on unsuspecting victims. Imagine swimming in a lake, just having fun during the summer. It could be a great day, that's about to become horrible, as two giant jaws open beneath you, snapping down upon your tender flesh. The teeth tearing your body to pieces, as the hungry water lizard eats you alive, leaving behind a pool of blood and torn rags. It would be an awful fate, full of agony and terror. It's not just the large and reptilian that is a threat either, there are tiny fish named piranhas, that could easily overwhelm you before they strike. A million stings all over, as your once smooth skin becomes mincemeat, attracting even more hungry devils to feast upon your remains. It's disturbing how a nice day out can

Haunted York
In the north of England, there is a city, unlike any other in the entire country. That is the city of York, which still holds onto it's medieval history, as many castles still stand here, amongst other buildings from the middle ages. It is a marvellous wonder, like visiting a time from long, long ago. Yet this book (podcast) is not a tourism guide. No, we are here to discuss true horror. As York's medieval history holds many dark tales, that are openly discussed.

Halloween
It is believed, that on the night of Halloween, the dead resurface on earth. Perhaps not the zombies you'd see in classic horror films, but the spirits of the dead, reveal themselves more openly. It stems from the Celtic belief that on the 31st of October, the seasons collide, opening a rift between the underworld where dead spirits linger. The idea of dressing up in spooky costumes and so forth, was a way to scare off any unwanted ghosts. This could explain why Supernatural sightings are ironically quite rare during this time of year. However, some ghost hunters have dared to venture outside of society during this night. They have discovered all matter of terrifying encounters, where it is not just the ghosts of humans and animals that resurface on earth, but even demons have been known to crack

If Zombies Existed
Here's a terrifying thought, what if the dead rose from their graves and feasted upon the living? Like something out of a cult horror film, the likelihood of this ever happening is most definitely impossible. However, modern media has depicted zombie outbreaks, in a much more believable fashion. The possibility of a world ending virus isn't something alien, we've already experienced several deadly diseases and plagues across the world. So to imagine a virus that not only killed thousands, but also deteriorated the minds and bodies of many, into becoming mindless cannibals, limping from one human meal to the next. Suddenly that idea doesn't seem too far fetched, there are also dozens of movies, TV shows and books that explore this horrifying possibility. Some have made the link between rabies, a disease that turns once calm and loyal pets, into rage filled beasts. What if a virus like that, eventually effected humans? It could spell the end of society as we know it. Other sources have linked the idea of Cordyceps, a fungi which possesses the bodies of ants in order to spread, to one day evolve into infecting humans, turning us into hideous monsters who only live to breed without intellect.

Subliminal Horror
Did you know, that you can be hypnotized without even knowing it. Low audio frequencies have been known to make listeners feel ill, split second text on screen can convince you to do things without your knowledge. For example; the text may flash "rub your face" and you may just do that, without realizing you were told to, by a split second instruction only your unconscious brain noticed. All of that is called subliminal messaging, it was used in advertising decades ago to convince consumers to buy products and so forth. This practice was almost banned, as it most definitely went against human rights. For it is a form of brainwashing. Although this practice is considered mostly illegal, that doesn't mean it still doesn't go on. Insidious though this may be, what is even worse, is when the trickster uses subliminal messages to harm their subjects.

The Haunted School
Upon the north east oceans of Japan, there is an abandoned mining colony known as Battleship Island, which has been left completely derelict since 1974. This place is very reminiscent of Chernobyl, the buildings are crumbling to pieces, it is severely overgrown with roots, grass and trees. Wild animals roam this once bustling island, which housed many residents in it's now creepy apartment blocks, which stand tall and grey in the darkness like long abandoned castles of old. It is a place, that is already unsafe to dare venture, yet some have been more foolish than others. There are urban explorers who've illegally trespassed into this island, taking photos, recordings and enjoying the thrill of exploring a complete ghost town. What many of them don't expect to encounter however, are the ghostly spirits that dwell within this long forgotten place. Of all the places that Battleship Island hides, there is one building in particular, that has in time become legend. That is of the lone school, which stands upon the island's shore.

Lochness Monster
This is a fictional story based off the Lochness Monster legend. We cannot truly determine whether or not the events that we are about to share really happened or not, only that many have previously sighted The Lochness Monster for themselves, and that this is supposedly one of those treacherous sightings. This is the tale of Captain Fitzgerald and his crew of five, who all ventured out on a fishing expedition in the middle of Lochness, during the summer of 1963. It was a rainy evening, despite the time of year. The heat was incredible, so the air had gotten damp and humid, resulting in a terrifying thunderstorm, that the fisherman found themselves in. Filthy water, spat up at them from deep below, they thought it was the wind, but apparently something much larger and fierce was hiding beneath the waves. The crew were freezing, as thunder struck in the far distance and rain drenched them completely.

Polybius
This is a fictional tale based off the urband myth. During the early 1980's a mysterious game could be found in many arcades across Portland, Oregon. Some may remember an all black arcade cabinet, with no title to read upon display. Many were intrigued and a little unsettled by the bare arcade cabinet, that appeared to have no name or art style to it at all. This strangely drawn in a lot of attention, beating the far more colourful competition, as the game's screen was supposedly hypnotic to look at. Players were seemingly entranced by this machine, like as if it possessed some sort of Hypnotic spell upon it's victims. The spirals and lines that crossed and dashed all over the screen, were fascinating to behold, with the perfect sounds to hook unsuspecting children into playing such devilry. For those unfortunate players would soon become addicted, spending every last cent they had to play a game or two, or three, four, five, six... Yet, it wasn't just the drug-like obsession that destroyed these poor innocents. Players would soon suffer severe side effects. Many would feel nauseous, some would have terrifying nightmares and others, most unfortunate, would suffer seizures and so much more. Yet these players would return time and time again, without fail, even after leaving the hospital, they'd crawl right back to it. They'd play the game non-stop, even at the detriment of their own health, until an untimely death would finally free them of their addiction. This game began to disappear across every arcade within Portland, after these harrowing stories began to spread like wildfire. Sadly, this only made the game more infamous and sought after, many began to give this game the nickname of "Polybius". Some have claimed this arcade cabinet always had this title on it, others say different. It is uncertain whether or not this game truly did display it's title or not, for it is believed that every cabinet was destroyed by 1983.
