Jay Mohr, potent marijuana, and the Liberace Museum
When I joined the board of the Liberace Foundation, I had never been in the Liberace Museum, nor the Liberace Museum Gift Shop. I knew of the museum, but as a young man I had heard that the staff denied that Liberace was gay, or that he had died of AIDS, which I felt did a disservice. Whether or not staffers were actually denying these facts I never found out for myself, but the societal denial surrounding his legacy had a negative feeling about it, and I was, unfortunately, not inspired to visit.

Who the hell is Liberace?
Liberace created the brand of showmanship on which the Las Vegas Strip was built. The Las Vegas Weekly December of 2012 called him the greatest Vegas headliner of all time, noting he had so many 'firsts,' that "every facet of stardom and entertainment mastery can be traced to, or through, Liberace."

It was an innocent time, when Liberace was seen as a heartthrob. The Lyrics say it all, sung in harmony by smiling young beauties.

How Liberace Took the 2019 MET Gala
Background The MET Gala began in 1948, and soon became "the jewel in the City's social crown." It was created as a fundraiser for the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. Vogue Managing Editor Anna Wintour took the torch as Special Consultant running the event, after retirement of her predecessor, editor Diana Vreeland, who had run the event since 1973.

Liberace Garage
In 1958, the first convention came to the Las Vegas Convention Center. It was a Mercedes Benz dealers' conference. It was also harbinger of things to come in the desert town, where conventions would prove to elevate what was then seen as a a mere gambling town.
