Cool Flame & the Chuckmuck
An exhausted soldier came shuffling down the road with a knapsack on his back and a sheathed sword by his side. He fought in many wars but was now too wounded to continue. The soldier kept rethinking his King’s last decree: “Return from whence you came, I need you no longer.” The soldier didn’t know how to make a living otherwise. Owning only the things he carried, the soldier went away greatly troubled, rambling nowhere in particular.

Loss in the Parking Lot
Milo found himself racing back up the granite staircase. Before he could even rethink his plans, he was rummaging through the group’s belongings. He prized out Templeton’s car keys and dashed back down the path that had led them to the heart of the quarry. The teens were too busy swimming to notice.

Plumage among the Group
“Whoah,” exclaimed Bruce, staring at the newborn chick seated in the center of the group. “Are they always that big?” “No,” stated Milo plainly, surprised at how large the baby chick had grown already. Milo began to pluck off the small pieces of shell still stuck to the chick’s body.

The Hatchling at the Quarry
Milo and Bruce were driving out to the Lampshire Granite Quarry, windows down on a warm but breezy autumn solstice. Milo kept trying to think of ways to start a conversation with Bruce, but his mind was too occupied with other thoughts. His mission was his focus; obtain money for his family to cover the back taxes owed to the IRS within the next 90 days. How exactly… he was unsure. Milo was also occupied physically, struggling to get the plastic wrapper off the to-go fork so he could try the chocolate cake he’d been given.

The Turtle and Bruce
Growing up in the rural town of Lampronshire was tough, but Milo was driven. Whether it was the image of his father with a bottle, fearing for his own future, or the seven younger siblings he looked after, something caused him to strive for more, to be better. Although they lived without running water or electricity, Milo found ways to learn beyond his 6th-grade education. The local library in the town center gave him access to a plethora of knowledge through books and the internet. That’s where he was headed now, to the town center, hoping to find some way into the city of Coltshire, further north. Milo had walked the dirt road into town many times to meet his siblings after school and pick up items from the general store. But, this time was different. He had a brand new motivation surging through him.

Tubes to the Mountains
The morning sun breaks over the horizon in the distance, beaming its light across the vast flatlands. Giant grasshoppers flutter between tall stalks of wheat, munching and drinking up the morning dew that has collected overnight. That was the one benefit of working the wheat fields, mass amounts of moisture to gather in the morning. It made you feel like your thirst could actually be quenched since the water distribution to each household was abysmal. These brief, beautiful moments in the sunrise helped to make Danae feel like life was worth living. The deep purple clouds appeared flat with homogenous color against the vibrant sky of orange, pink, and blue behind it. Danae breathed in deep the dawn air.

Cherries and Star Anise
“Not what you’d expect on a first date, huh?” asked Tobias, still somewhat shaken. “No,” she breathed, “it’s much better.” Deborah giggled nervously, basking with Tobias in the light of the full moon. Her eyes lit up as she lifted her chin to meet his, leaving a small kiss on his lips to remember her by. “Do try to arrive earlier next time.”

Perrmo the Practical
The band was whipping up a frenzy of song, filling the pub with music, and Greta was swaying back and forth, mesmerizing with her hips. She circled the floor, causing folks to get out of their chairs and move. She could get even the grittiest, most ruthless thug to begin tapping their toes at least, watching her gracefully swing about the space. Greta was a curvy woman, a unique beauty with enthralling charm. Perrmo was having trouble himself, doing his best to watch the bartender while Greta’s enchanting dance continued.
