Write. Just Write.
As writers we're constantly searching for ways to make ourselves, and our work, better. We follow every writing account on social media. We listen to podcasts and sign up for email subscriptions. We buy books that tell us how to write a book. We do all this in the hopes that what advice we manage to actually retain will make us better writers. Perhaps some of them will stick, but in all honesty, you'll forget most of them the second after you read them. And that's okay; we're not going to remember everything. If we did, writing probably wouldn't be the profession we'd choose to pursue.

Just Passed Midnight
She sucked in a sharp breath, the sound echoing loudly in the silence. Squinting, she looked about the room and then to the window. Her vision was blurry with sleep, so she could barely make out the jagged, thin branches of the oak tree through the glass as they swayed in the night breeze. The moon cast them in an eerie, haunting silhouette across the floor in spidering, web-like cracks as if they were reaching out to grab her bare leg that hung over the side of the bed.

Fly Away Soul
Tap. Tap. Tap. The soft rhythmic sound echoed in the vast work room, off tempo of the classical music scratchily playing from a record player hidden deep in some forgotten corner. Rows upon rows of spools of red thread stood on massive bolts, taking up more than half of the room. A line from each spool led to the open side of the room making a pretty display of criss crossing patterns in the air. Each line ended at a central point where an old, worn spinning wheel sat before the only window in the room.
