A High Seas Affair
Spending time on the open seas, that’s the proper way to enjoy a vacation! Just me and my boyfriend, surrounded by nothing but water. I certainly owed a debt to Jamie for letting us borrow the boat for the weekend. Jordan and I stood on the edge of the beach, sand in our toes, wind in our hair. In the far distance we could see the S.S. Loco heading towards us, just on the horizon. Oh Jamie, you certainly had a knack for naming vessels after your personality.
Bright light city gonna set my soul on fire
When you hear the name "Las Vegas", what do you think about? The Elvis Presley song? Booze? Gambling? The movie The Hangover? Crazy taxi drivers? Even though alcohol and gambling are generally the first two things someone thinks of when it comes to Vegas, this city has much, much more to offer than getting drunk and betting money.
Love at First Glass
It was every woman's true nightmare of firsts: their first date. Eek. Mike Heisenberg was 5 foot 10 inches of pure, prime, sexy man. That short black, wavy hair? Those deep, brown eyes? They were the icing on the cake! But, I'm 20 years old and have never went on a real date with a man. Dinner at the local café in town, and a concert in the park. What could go wrong? I was so unprepared. What do I say to him? What do I wear? I probably shouldn't show too much cleavage, I want to be modest, but I also want to be gorgeous. Fuck. Should I put on makeup? And what shoes should complete my outfit? These were some very tricky decisions to make! I needed the advice from one of the strongest, wisest women I knew: my grandma.
From Passion to Playlist
My love for the piano has been blossoming for most of my 24 year-old life. I took lessons as a child, but disliked it. It was yet another thing that my parents had forced me into. But somewhere along the way, I noticed that wanting to practice didn't feel like such an insurmountable task. The harder I worked, the better the result. Eventually my passion was ignited. I couldn't get enough of piano music. As I got older, the lessons may have stopped, but that didn't stop me. I continued to teach myself, to expand my knowledge. My skill grew each year. and then once I graduated high school I knew that a degree in music was my destiny. I enrolled in the school of music at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne. Receiving professional instruction, my love for the piano exploded like fireworks. I spent hours every day practicing, sharpening my craft.
The dealio with the lingo
Last night, I decided to butter him up before giving the shoulder. But on my way there, it was raining cats and dogs. When I walked out the door, my sister said to break a leg! Now what the hell did all of that just mean? Well, mostly nonsense. Because this didn't actually happen. But I'm guessing one of those common phrases just rang a bell in your head. I got curious about the origin of these myself. Let's look at 10 of them and see where they're from.
Wanna see a party trick?
From a very young age, my mother discovered that I had perfect pitch: the ability to recall the names of notes without being given a reference point. It is quite uncommon as only 1 in 10,000 people possess this trait. My family broke the scale with that one as both me and my mother had it. This ability may not seem like much, but it could be useful. Whenever the repairman came over to check out our furnace, my mother would always entertain him by playing different notes on the piano and having me name them for his amusement. Hell, whenever I hear a random noise emitted, whether it’s the hum of the refrigerator or the buzzer on a gameshow, I could definitely shoot up and tell you hey that sounded like a B-flat!
Zodiacs are Bullsh*t
With people still believing covid is a hoax, it's no surprise to me there's people out there that believe zodiac signs hold some kind of truth. In reality, zodiac signs are just a flawed method for people to validate their characteristics no matter how positive or negative they may be. After all, you would probably roll your eyes if your waitress treated you poorly and said Oh I'm sorry, I'm a Pisces.
Confessions of a Factory Worker
A lot of us have been there at some point, and most of us have quite an array of stories from it: working in factories. From long hours, to grueling physical labor, to being shorted on benefits, there is no limit to how much factories are willing to stretch human beings past their capacities. Now it isn't all bad. There are some diamonds in the rough. But they are usually nowhere to be found when it comes to finding a good factory job.
