Fare Well
“We bade farewell to land To shore, since fate had Forced us to go.” These were the words penned on the first page of the small, black notebook that Charlotte found in her dad’s apartment. She hadn’t seen his handwriting in ten years and was not expecting it to make her so emotional. After all, they had not been on good terms. She couldn’t help but think of how appropriate the quote was given the circumstances. He may have known he was nearing the end of his life, even if the coroner was not yet sure of the cause. The rest of the notebook was blank. Charlotte slid it into her back pocket. She laughed to herself, thinking that it was probably all the inheritance she was likely to receive. She was okay with that. She had known it all her life.
