In a 2016 Washington Post article NPR's Terri Gross says of podcast host and creator Marc Maron, “There’s something paradoxical about Maron,” says “Fresh Air” host, a loyal “WTF” listener and interviewee. “His TV and onstage persona is kind of cranky, angry. Yet he’s so intuitive and empathetic as an interviewer. He emotionally commits when he’s doing an interview, and I think that’s one of the reasons why people, like me, feel comfortable confiding in him.”

Short Wave Podcast posits fungi takeover HBO Max has scored a hit with The Last Of Us. The post-apocalyptic nine-episode series has caused many people to worry about "clickers" attacking them and passing along a deadly fungal infection Cordyceps. Thankfully, the fungus in The Last of Us, does not currently affect humans — it affects insects.

50 Women Over 50 Podcast
In its brief history (2005? -- present) podcasting has been dominated by men. As podcasting has become more popular, women have engaged more with the medium, both as podcasters and as listeners. According to Podnews, women have started closing the gender gap in the last five years. In 2017, only 44 percent of U.S. 18+ monthly podcast listeners were female. In 2022, 48 percent are female, more closely mirroring the U.S. population.

Yes, I know. Some people read "CNN" in the title and use their inner voice to scream "fake news" or something a bit more intelligible like "liberal-minded news." I know some of this crowd is locked up in their deep state delusions, but for those I can still reach, here goes. CNN has a new corporate overload, David Zaslav of Discovery. He, of the $246 million annual salary, is a Trump supporter. Therefore, CNN has modulated its political coverage and has returned to its more "middle-of-the-road" coverage, if that position is still even possible.

Freakonomics airs an episode about trying to clean up the world Freakonomics recently introduced a miniseries podcast called The Economics Of Everyday Things. In the first episode: Gas stations. When gas prices skyrocket, do station owners get a windfall? And where do their profits really come from? This episode was enlightening and counterintuitive in some of its conclusions.
