Annals of diabetes
As a pharmacologist working in tissue engineering with an interest in pharmacokinetics and business, I recognize that that entire line was a mouthful. I am also a type 1 diabetic, which allows me the enjoyment of knowing a good number of things in varying depths. In most situations this is usually not helpful information.
Hidden in the Stars
Hidden in the stars are the secrets of our personalities. When and where were each of us born? I’m not sure when astrology became such a trendy thing. Being half Chinese, I had always ascribed more to the Eastern astrology which is celebrated each year. There are 12 animals, their order based on when they passed into the kingdom (think Noah’s ark but more regal). For each passing of any one particular zodiac, there are different elements – water, fire, wood, earth, and metal. Today, 2/26/21 (I’m cutting it close to this deadline), is Chap Goh Meh.
Black in Beauty and Business
What it is to be African, or African-American, or mixed, in America in 2021. I won’t bother with highlighting that this racial identity has been continuously mistreated in this country before America was even America. Today, I sit in Atlanta, GA. I’ve been to the museums that speak about the progress our society has made from mistreating others in this city, and in Boston, MA and even Washington DC (I don’t remember that trip, I was a child). For all the progress that’s been made, there’s still a LONG ways to go. I can’t fathom treating another person so horribly. I feel their pain, and I am with them for the war.
Books Lead the Way
The seven alarms that she used to wake up each day for her job went off one-by-one, separated by 15 minutes of shallow sleep between. Just as she had been doing every workday for the previous 2 years, she shut them off and shut her eyes, wanting to stay comfortably in her bed rather than go into work. As the last alarm went off, she noticed the date – August 6. Her smile grew wide and she jumped out of bed to get ready.
Valentine’s Day is a day every one of us either looks forward to with nervous anticipation, or dreads. Depends on our status – taken, single; and how long we’ve been there. Is the relationship or breakup new? Welcome the advent of Galentine’s Day – a day where women can gather with their girlfriends and be loved regardless of the presence of any significant other. In any case, here’s an anti-Valentine’s playlist. This was hard – as a metal lover, there’s a lot of anger and sadness to draw on, and what else can produce anger and sadness like being lonely after a failed relationship? I enjoy other genres so there’s a mix here that I hope everyone can identify with. XO, Felicia.
Bitcoin. It’s February 2021 and on the forefront of everyone’s mind as it trades at over $48,000 USD per 1 Bitcoin. My first encounter with Bitcoin was as a young gamer. I was 16, and mildly financially conscious as you’d expect a 16-year-old undergraduate student to be without any real concept of budgeting or money in 2009. At the time, Bitcoin was written off as a joke – a kind of worthless entity only pale nerds and geeky gamers cared about. Monopoly money. A fleeting interest due to the amount of time required to mine Bitcoin – two weeks for 2 Bitcoin for some. I’ll share – I had entered a game that had a bitcoin bonus of 30 Bitcoins associated with it just because, free money. I’m embarrassed to admit that with Bitcoin at its current value, I downloaded a VPN from Norton just to figure out if I could find it. Sadly, it is woefully lost to me – good thing I made it through school and made something of myself. I do enjoy my career, but I’ve long missed gaming.
