Hello, and welcome to a compilation of depression memes and depression quotes to educate, entertain, or inspire. It’s winter and still pandemic times, so today’s digest will include validation of our collective rage, as well as a reminder that life is ridiculous, through the combination of science and the word “butt-hole”.

We Chose To Stop At One Child
Last year, there was one kid in my daughter’s class who didn’t have siblings. Mine. I don’t think the teacher realized this. But when they would talk about playing or home life, they often talked about their brothers and sisters. My kid would come home and ask when she would have one. She would talk about wanting one, I think, mainly because her friends all had one.

I Had No Idea I Was Having Panic Attacks
Chalk another thing up to misrepresentation in media. In TV shows and movies when someone has a panic attack it’s a big deal. They clutch their chest, fall to the ground, or are sure it’s a heart attack. They heave big, panicked breaths.

Why The Right Book (For You) Can Help in Dark Times
If you can find it, the right book at the right time can be a balm. It can ease the rawness caused by, for example, a pandemic, abuses of power, or widespread social unrest. Partially, this is because reading offers a distraction or an escape. But, there are actually more reasons that the right book can help, and there’s science that backs them up.

Two New and Ridiculous Games to Play During Quarantine
Today, I am very excited to share with you two new ridiculous games that are sure to sweep the quarantined nation. I am pleased to say these games have been thoroughly assessed by the ultimate professional of fun dumb things, a 6-year-old kid. If you are in need of indoor entertainment, or a way to burn off some pandemic-related frustration, give these a go.

The 2,000-Year-Old Lost City
Interest in the ancient world is common, but in the West is heavily focussed on the cultures of ancient Egypt, Rome, and Greece. Of course, these are far from being the only important civilizations of their time. What the are, are the ones of whom we have a wealth of records, as they were able to preserve them. They are also the ones Western society is supposed to have descended from. There are many others that were as notable, but we have not yet become familiar with. But we should. There's a lot we can learn about the development of ideas and technologies by looking at the bigger picture, rather than focussing on a narrow time and place. So, I was fascinated when I saw this, and wanted to summarize it for you, as I had never heard of them before. 2,000-year-old hydraulics??

5-Star Books From 2020
It’s impossible to keep up with the amazing books published every year! I have a couple of go-to sites and reviewers to help me. You probably know many of them: Book Riot, Goodreads and, of course, here on Medium. My library subscribes to NoveList Plus, which breaks down books by appeal factors and other criteria. If you have access to it, I highly recommend it for searching for a specific plot type or sub-genre.
