I Was Not an Acrobat
I stir from my slumber, and take a deep breath. The world feels like it is moving at a far faster rate than I am used to, but then again everything has felt like that since The Greatest Show on Earth came to an end. The train ride starts out like any other. People go on about their mundane lives. I'm used to traveling, but the sights I saw were never as special as the company I kept. Travel was fun with the comradery of my circus family.
Lost Cause Kids
I'm looking into the eyes of a sweet nine year old girl at the mental health facility I was a case manager at. I'm talking to her and casually asking her about her day. Then, I said something I'm not sure if I should have. I could tell by the look in her eyes that it shattered her world.

Natural and Normal: Not Gender SpecificTop Story - July 2022
I always knew this day would come, and I honestly always knew how I would react to this situation. My dad would be livid with me if he was still alive, but I surprisingly don't give a shit. The majority of my family members would reactively respond as well, and something small and unproblematic would be escalated to an insane and ridiculous level. However, I don't have a problem with it and I don't care. They could list off examples of what one small action is going to do to "damage" my child's psyche, but it won't happen.
Dad's Midas Touch
I walk into the entryway when I spy something glittering at the top of the wire rack. I'm fourteen and old enough to know better, but young enough that the canister tempts me. Dad always kept me away from it. He had a specific section in his outbuilding just for that sacred stuff. Even the WD-40 cans were intentionally placed out of my reach just in case. I was to go nowhere near it without permission or without command. I understood his concern.

You'll Grow A Watermelon in Your Belly!Top Story - June 2022
Dear Dad, "If you swallow the seeds, you'll grow a watermelon in your belly!" sounds like an iconic Dad joke. Your child, aka me, remembers hearing the phrase well! Occasionally, it was even stretched to include apples seeds! Yikes! I was a gullible child, and oh-so-fun to pick on!
Sins May Be Pardoned with Ice Cream
Because this story is about forgiveness, I'll start off with an apology to my lactose-intolerant friends. I am so incredibly sorry that you cannot partake in this delicious dairy indulgent treat. If it helps at all, you can eat a delectable order of Chinese takeout in front of me while I enjoy my ice cream. I feel your pain with intolerances as I too have one of the soy variety, and hot damn isn't that in nearly everything?! So here's the deal: we can share in jealousy, pleasure, sorrow, and joy all at the same time. Sounds like a good start to a bad romance, am I right? Queue Lady Gaga, "Rah, rah-ah-ah-ah"! Anyway, while you're enjoying your platter of Chinese takeout, let me share my guilty pleasure with you. You can tempt and tease me all you want in return later.
Resurrecting a Recipe
One of my dad's favorite jokes was that he only liked two types of pie: hot and cold. When I began baking, I knew I had to make him one for his birthday. However, I lacked three things at the time: experience, time, and finesse. To solve this problem, I adapted a quick cobbler recipe, and added pie filling instead. I dubbed the revised creation pie bars. Then, I just needed to pick a flavor.
The Rise and Fall: Turmoil in the Heavens
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. There was a time, my dear child, when mankind had no knowledge of dragon kind whatsoever. Rumors of such magical beings had been heard of course, but their existence was not validated by mere human eyes. No, dragons were territory of the heavens: unbeknownst, like many things to the meager mortal mind. We were always kept in the dark. The heavenly beings intended for our existence to wait at doors and altars to provide worship and praise for their divine egos. Yet, the gods left us knocking, waiting, and longing for our purpose and answers to our questions about life’s truths. This is a tale about one of those times; a time they left us knocking, and a time when no gods answered the door, no god that is, except those who had been banished from the heavens already.
Food Budgeting Tips for Beginners
With inflation on the rise, many individuals and families are becoming more aware of the overall price of foods, goods, and services. While some state they don't want to talk about it, others are bringing it up as a constant topic of conversation. Regardless of which side of the coin you are on, it is likely that everyone wants to save more money.
