Independence Day
July 4th, 1776...the day the "Thirteen Colonies" became these United States of America. I can see it now; our red-white-and-blue flag flapping in the young, gunpowder-filled, Pennsylvanian air. Fireworks exploding in the great black sky above the liberated colonists, gathered together in brotherhood and patriotism. Men—northerners and southerners alike—are blasting their rifles and six-shooters to the stars in jubilation. Women—proper and improper—are kissing men in the streets in celebration. Young boys are smiling from ear to ear and young girls are giggling and laughing uncontrollably. Words like “freedom” and “independence” and “liberty” collapse, like a waterfall, from the lips of the youngest of babies to the most wrinkled of the elderly.

Black-on-Black Crime Is a Reality
You know, sometimes I have a hard time understanding my fellow Americans. I really don’t understand why some white people believe that black people (as a whole), and Black Lives Matter (as an organization) are fine with black criminals killing each other as well as killing other innocent blacks… but seem to get pissed when the police do it.

Time to Own Shit
I told y'all why racist systems are still prevalent in this country and every country. And I laid out for y'all why you (black people...the African diaspora) should gain economic and political currency in this country. Be patient, BE HUMBLE, be smart, don't quit, and it'll work.

Dear Black People
Before slavery, the inferiority of Africans did not exist and definitely not in the way it is perpetrated now. People from different parts of the world were not reduced down to the basic epithets of ‘black’ and ‘white’ but were referred to by their nation name. Slavery changed all that, making it necessary to label African people in a particular way to fuel the trade and stem any early counter arguments against it. The problem is, people across the world have taken these lies as gospel and that is the basis for much of modern racism against African peoples.

Fade to Black
When most people see a spider in their house, more often than not, their first reaction is, "Oh shit? Where's my slipper!" or something along those lines. Oddly enough, though, "house" spiders do not aim to harm us (humans), they're simply just trying to get from point A to point B in their ordinary, daily lives as insects. They're just trying to do what spiders do--eat bugs, give birth to smaller baby spiders and, of course, avoid becoming a tiny gush stain on the mean end of a size 10.5 slipper).

First Love
You're a young kid growing up in the loud and gang-infested city of Compton, CA...or in one of the quiet suburbs of New England...a town in rural Japan or a war-torn city in Iraq. One day a friend, or parent, or whoever shows you a comic book. It reads "MARVEL" in big bold white letters on a red background. Or maybe it reads "DC" and is encircled, like a badge, with a black and white color theme. There are numbers (#18, #85, #201...) on the cover page, but you have no idea what they mean. It doesn't matter, you don't care.

Movie Review: "Wonder Woman" Defeats the Box Office
When she was first sketched on a blank page, it was 1940, the dark days of the Second World War. A year later she made her first appearance in All Star Comics. Little boys liked her because she was strong—and half-naked. Little girls liked her because she was pretty.
