Dr Lachlan Soper Shares a Family Bike Ride From Lower North Shore to Eastern Suburbs
Score: 9.5/10. Gee what would make it 10/10? It’s only small stuff… perhaps: Children being allowed to slowly ride their bikes through the Botanical Gardens footpath, which is currently not permitted. Flattening “Heartbreak Hill” and the hill in Darling Point 😉. Seriously, I need to check out next time whether the kids can ride along Tivoli Ave and the Hermitage Foreshore Walk, rather than up Heartbreak hill and down Vaucluse Rd. But, I can’t say this often enough, this is a world class day out for a family that loves exercise and, views and the outdoors.

Score: 9/10 This is roughly a 40km ride, with a 15km detour to Bar Italia for pizza and gelato. Although the 55km ride may be a little too long for many kids, if they are fit and adventurous, this detour takes this ride from an 8/10 to a 9/10.

Dr Lachlan Soper on How Parenting Expectations Can Be Damaging
Children don’t come out of Mummy’s tummy with a step-by-step instruction manual. As parents we all learn on the job, every day. We make mistakes and God-willing we learn, adapt and improve. Every parent is going to have their own way of raising their child. When it comes down to it, there is no ultimate right or wrong way to raise your children. However, thanks to social media and many parents sharing their own experiences and life as a family, there is more often than not someone telling them that they’re doing it all wrong, negatively judging their parenting style, and giving advice no one asked for. Setting your own high expectations of other parents can be damaging.
