The Huxtables, Me and Mine
I remember as a kid, the uproar over the Cosby show. My family wouldn't miss an episode. My father, mother, sister, and I crowded around the small TV in a shoebox of a room, glued to the Huxtables, to see the possibility of a black family. "Everyone went to college?" I can remember hearing my older sister once whisper. It was something that we were all thinking. We continued to watch the show and my sister and I would breathe in that we could be lawyers and doctors if we wanted. My mother and father would actually say the words, trying to convince themselves of it by hearing the sound. We all realized, while watching the show, that we could have family dinners with conversations that only showed love and concern for one another. Well, we tried the dinner around the table thing. That didn't work out. Thank goodness our gatherings around the TV to watch the Huxtables always did.
