I love art as much as writing, and when the world feels dark, I get out my paper and colored pencils and draw while listening to music. When my husband and I were going through a divorce, journaling is what got me through that..
Walking In Your Shoes
This is not a new scenario, but it is a sad one that has been happening over and again since the civil war. I remember the problems that began in the 1950's after it became official that segregation in schools was illegal and would stop. This problem carried on into the 1960s and beyond. A lot of people could not accept the idea of black children and white children attending the same schools. They were used to schools being all white.
Out of the Dog's Mouth
Hello. Do you like my picture? I am thirteen years old in this picture, and I'm still looking good, don't you think? This is my story, a story of my life with my master as seen through my eyes, and why I love the person I call my master (or mother), and how we came to know each other and learn from each other.
You Can Leave Your Hat On!
I wanted him to touch me so much that I thought I was going to explode. He was older than me, quite a bit older, but he had a tight body, long hair, and eyes that looked right into your soul. Unfortunately he was living with another woman, and I was making it my life goal to get him for myself. After all, they weren't married or anything like that, so as far as I could see, he was out there for the taking.
I watched him from the side of the pool, my body submerged in the sparkling water, and my arms resting on the edges of the pool. He was tan and that simply highlighted the deep blue of his eyes and the blonde in his hair from the sun. He had an amazing six-pack and his legs were as sturdy as a girl could ask for. I could feel my body tremble as I watched him walk around the pool, checking to make sure nobody was under the water and needed help. He stopped, and crossed his arms over his chest and then looked right at me. I must have turned six shades of red when that happened and I felt like a stalker that had been caught. Quickly I pulled my arms forward and dove into the cool water until I got to the deep end where I went full under water. When I came up, he was standing right in front of me and my heart skipped a beat or two.
Mama's Two-Day Red Sauce
What is that wonderful aroma resonating from the kitchen? It has to be my favorite dish, red sauce made for linguini, spaghetti, lasagna, and fresh garlic bread to be dipped in it. The secret is the cooking time, and since there has been more time than needed during this quarantine, it was a good time to revisit the recipe and enjoy a traditional Italian dinner with my family.
If Today Was Your Last Day
To Whom it May Concern: I know words do not always express how people feel, but now more than any other time, words will have to do until I can perhaps be lucky enough to hug you and thank you personally.
In 1918, the Spanish flu spread like crazy and a lot of people died. In Philadelphia, there was a huge parade scheduled, and the Mayor refused to cancel the parade in spite of the warnings. The parade went on, and about a week later 13,000 people died from the Spanish flu.
Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
It is impossible to estimate the number of rapes in this country over the period of a year because so many rape cases are not reported. This is a sad statistic because nobody should be the victim of a violent crime and yet be afraid to come forward for fear of being considered the perpetrator rather than the victim. But, it's a sad fact and there has to be a change.
