Every Time Something Happens, Normal Changes Forever
Do you remember when a loved one was flying to your city for a visit? You would drive to the airport and wait at the gate when they stepped off the plane. If you spent much time in an airport, you saw those joyous reunions at almost every gate. My wife used to travel a lot and more often than not, I would be the first person she saw when she left the jetway.

On the Road in a ’57 Chevy
I was watching a guy load his two kids in his SUV the other day at the mall. He helped them into the back seat and made sure they buckled up. He watched as one pulled down the video screen from the ceiling, put on his Wi-fi enabled noise-canceling headphones, and started watching a movie. The other one took out a tablet and began playing a video game. Dad smiled at his children and carefully closed the back door. He hopped in front, buckled up, started the engine, cranked up the air, and off they went.

When You Should Just Tell Yourself No
I rarely have a problem saying no to other people. Sorry, I don’t have time right now. I would, but I’ve got that thing to do with that stuff. Someone will ask me if I can do something, I look at my to-do list and just can’t fit it in.

The Only Self-Help Advice You Will Ever Need
I remember back when they had things called bookstores. I would wander through, gaze at the different genres and be amazed at how many books there would be on a single subject. There might be twenty books about alpaca farming. How did anyone ever sell the second book about alpaca farming? Was there anything new to learn?

You’re Lying to Yourself if You Think Multitasking is a Good Thing
Remember the game you played as a child, where you had to pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time? That was probably your first attempt at multitasking. Your failure to accomplish easily and the shoddy results once you could do it should have been your first clue.

Plan Time to Waste Time
Productivity is all about planning your time so you accomplish more and waste less time. But a lot of what we consider wasted time isn’t really wasted at all. We’re just doing it at the wrong times. Recreation, leisure, entertainment, and just plain idle thought, is not time wasted. We need those in our lives. So instead of fighting them, plan for them.

Is Life Getting to Be Too Much?
When I was nineteen, I worked in a bar for a couple of years. Think Cheers, but we had better characters. I started before lunch and went to closing. This meant 11 am to 4 am, with a few hours break in the afternoon. Saturday night I got to leave at 2 am.

How to Master the Technical Aspects of Writing
Prior to the early ’80s, my word processor was a circa 1950 Remington typewriter. It weighed about fifteen pounds and pressing the keys was like playing whack-a-mole. I only had one ribbon for it, so when it got to the end, I reversed the reels and went back through it. With each passing letters had more and more gaps in them. That the keys were so worn, most of them smudged together, helped with that. I did the editing with White-Out. Backups? Forget it.
