The mirage of a dream
A good friend turned 30 a couple of days ago. We did the New York thing. Go eat obscenely expensive Thai food. Probably the price we paid could pay for food for a village in the streets of Bangkok. But it is not Sukhumvit Soi, it is Union Square. And we drank the night away, in memory and homage to younger nights, when stars shined just a shade brighter. Nostalgia is happiness as it allows us to re-run stories, entertain possibilities, insert and embellish details through the narratives that just grow better with age, revealing the undertones of zest and mint. The memory then sieves those details worth remembering giving them the aura of permanence, eternity. Going in circles, not towards someplace or something. That is happiness or at least some would say.
