Hello! I am an anthropologist who loves to travel & write.
I found that over the quarantine caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic, that TikTok is a GREAT distraction from reality!! Which due to current circumstances, is greatly needed. And one day,l while I was on this app, I discovered possibly one of the geekiest and funniest videos out there, that for some reason never went viral! It is a video by a creator named @adamkrimmel on TikTok who made a video on Diogenes of Sinope. Now this might sound odd, but hear me out: he was a real badass guy with the coolest character arc!!
TikTok has really taken off this year, especially during this time of a global pandemic when we have all been stuck inside our houses (and trying to stay sane!) I think that because of this, many creative and inspiring videos have been created and shared with the world, some of which have been funny or inspiring, while others have been educational supporting activism. With that being said, because so many new videos have been created all within a short amount of time, many of those videos have gone unnoticed and have flown under the radar when they deserved to go viral for the masses to see! One of which, I feel definitely needs more attention, which I discovered from an Indiginous creator on TikTok with the username @chokeacolaa (give them a follow!)
There are TONS of travel apps on the app store to download, so many in fact that it can be overbearing. And what’s worse, is that many of these travel apps are terrible and hard to use (not to mention half of them cost an arm and a leg to buy!) But this is 2020, and it is time to know which travel apps actually work and to cut to the chase. Here are the top travel apps you must add to your arsenal today!
New York City’s Chinatown is rich in culture, history and full of amazing people. I’ve been to New York twice now in the last two years, and I have to say that the one place you have to see when you are there is in fact Chinatown. However, many people will tell you not to go there. They will say it is dangerous, that you will get robbed or worse. But from what I can tell, most of what you hear are either rumors or fear mongering. However, let me explain why you should go there and a little bit about Chinatown’s history.
Truthfully, I feel that the music that came out of the 2010’s was not only some of the most influential we have ever seen, but also some of the most progressive, especially when it comes to music highlighting the LGBT+ community! As part of this community, I think that if I could only choose one decade of music to listen from, it would have to be this one. But let me dive in a little deeper as to why this is THE best decade of music and why I love it so much!!
Anthropology: An Introduction Anthropology easily gets mistaken with other social sciences such as sociology, phycology, etc. but to put it as simply as possible, anthropology is the study of people and culture. But I like to put it another way, by a quote from Michael Carrithers: “Anthropology is a field of study beginning from a moral position; namely, the recognition of the worth of the other.” This is what anthropology, in my opinion, is all about. Finding that we are all unique and different, but similar too. That we should look upon others as equals and not less than ourselves. I find that the more people you meet, the more places you go, and the more observing you do, you see how alike we are in many ways.
Everyone wants to travel, and that shouldn’t only be possible for the wealthy, so I created this list to help everyone realize their travel dreams!! Traveling for free isn’t going to be easy, but it is very possible to do with strategic planning and a little bit of time!
