How To Not Hate People.
I was on the bus yesterday, ready to murder the man standing next to me with his mask down by his chin. You’ve found yourself in something similar; consumed by anger at how stupid someone can be. You’ve followed rules your whole life and just can’t help but feel vitriol when you see someone breaking them, as though they are somehow above these rules.
You’re Not Allowed To Read This.
Hey! You better not be reading this. If you’re reading this, you better stop. This isn’t for you. It’s a piece expressing the feeling of existential futility people feel when making anything, too consumed by the self-awareness that statistically voicing anything is ultimately meaningless. So if you’re reading this, stop it! You’re giving it meaning and that’s just rude.
11 Lies About Millionaires
Photo by Giorgio Trovato on UnsplashThis may surprise you, but I love watching Fox News. I love hearing from people I disagree with. I'm enthralled by things I'm opposed to. This is for many reasons; diversify opinions I'm exposed to, strengthen my defences, nurture empathy. There's many reason but one comes to mind in particular, a reason I wish more people would consider.
Dead People Have It Easy; You Can’t Compare.
It’s natural to compare yourself to others as a way of gauging how you’re getting on in life and how closely you’re matching their achievements. Some of the best and brightest in many fields were in rivalries with one another, even if they never bother to tell anyone else. Often people will compare themselves to idols they want to immulate. The Ballad of Secret RTÉ Producer.
The age of the internet has brought about a golden age for whistlblowing, boycotting, and well known secrets. Whether it's the Me Too movement, Black Lives Matter (and affiliates), or Wikileaks, the internet has proven its ability to shed light on the darker corners of those in charge in every country.
The Dye In The Night.
As he trekked forward to the stone wall, Oisín couldn’t help looking over his shoulder at the Abbey in the distance. If he was quick, he could return home before dawn, leaving Brother Raymond none-the-wiser. Bumping into the wall tore his eyes away from the towers and huts, returning him to the journey ahead. Though the wall was low enough to mount over but high enough to keep the ewes in their field, he was struck by what the interlocking rocks represented.
Is This Reasonable? This Stopped Me Killing Myself.
March 2020. Covid had just hit Ireland and it was announced we would be going into lockdown (our first of many as it turns out). I had just managed to make an appointment with the local Pieta House (a suicidal prevention and mental health support centre). I was probably one of the last people they had in face to face. From then on my counsellor (Amanda) would contact me through bi-weekly phone calls. I should explain that I was not suicidal and depressed because of Covid. It didn't help but rather my low state was due to my situation in life.
