Hi friends, my name is Connie and I play bass in a band called wych elm. This blog is for me to write down my inner ramblings, talk about music, being in a band and just whatever the heck I want.

Just So Typically Me... Ooo Baby, Baby
I remember, a few years ago now, on a work team-building trip away, doing a workshop with a coach about time-management. They gave us sheets of paper with a large circle on, which we had to split up to create a pie chart of one full day. So we had to include things like sleep, breakfast, commute, working day, lunch, dinner and getting ready for bed. We had to include how much time these activities took up, and then subtract that from 24 to get how much time in each day we have left over for other activities.

IDLES & Heroes
Today marks four years since I was introduced to IDLES. I tell this story all the time, but alas, I will tell it again as I enjoy telling it. It's my blog and I'll do what I want to. Cool. ANYWAY, one of the perks of doing my apprenticeship at Buzz Magazine in Cardiff meant getting to go to gigs I wanted to review for the magazine, and one of them was to see Peace at Tramshed, as part of Swn Festival. There were two other bands on before IDLES, then IDLES, and then Peace.

My Top 10 Bands To Come Out Of Bristol
Growing up in between Cardiff (Wales) and Bristol (England) meant I was lucky enough to be exposed to both cities' music scenes. I am very proudly Welsh, and I adore Cardiff, but something about Bristol drew me in, leading to me then to move there after completing my apprenticeship.

Tour Diary: My First Ever Tour!
Introduction When I joined wych elm, I didn't even think about gigs. I was so excited to be playing bass with a band that I loved pre-Connie joining, and we learnt new songs and recorded the EP as soon as I joined. We then got a Booking Agent (shout out to Mother Artists, you rock), and our diaries started getting rather full.

JOHN TIMES TWO
I was first introduced to JOHN after they supported IDLES on their European tour, I then finally saw them live for the first time in Sheffield. They must've made a good impression because I then went on to see them a number of times supporting Heavy Lungs, supporting St Pierre Snake Invasion, and at two headline shows.

Johnny Foreigner | Live Review
Well, well, well. Where to start? I met my lovely partner, Nick, four years ago today (the day I am writing), and it was through him that I was introduced to Johnny Foreigner. Although it wasn't quite as straightforward as that, he took me to see Yr Poetry and I adored them, met Alexei, added him on the ol' socials, bonded with him over the fact he said I looked like my aunt Donna, then listened to his other musical projects (Johnny Foreigner, itoldyouiwouldeatyou) and then commissioned him to write a soppy love song for Nick, as he is his hero, and I am a disgustingly romantic partner, and BREATHE.

Shaky Hands and the Anxiety Sh*ts
I want to this blog post to hopefully help other anxious people feel that they are able to join a band and play gigs, because it is possible, and playing a gig is the most cathartic and rewarding experience you will ever get as a musician.

The Albums That Made Me Want To Be In A BandTop Story - September 2021
I'm sure that most musicians say this, but I truly knew that music was something I had to do as a career pretty early on. I'm lucky to have grown up in a musical household, where I was continually encouraged to explore my creativity and find the path that suited me the best.
