When I was a kid, I spent most of my childhood living in rural Saskatchewan. Here, the nearest neighbor was many miles away. As this environment was a bit isolating (with not much to do), I decided I needed to convince my mother to buy me a computer. After many many days of begging, she finally caved and I got a computer and the internet. I was incredibly happy about this. This occurred in 1996, and at this point in time computers were just starting to become a little more mainstream (with the internet catching on in popularity). I spent hours upon hours on the computer, playing games and figuring out the basics of how they worked. Although it’s taken for granted now, the technology at the time was incredibly fascinating and I believe this is where my journey into gaming and tech began. Along with the computer, consoles like the Super Nintendo, the N64, and the early Playstations provided further entertainment and engagement. I played a wide variety of games (everything from Mario Kart to RPGs and platformers).
