Texting and Writing
The way we communicate in 2021 has significantly changed from 50, 60, 70 years ago. We are in the age of technology; the beginning of those advanced futuristic movies that we never get to see, the calm inventing and advancing before the technological storm. For a writer, like myself, who best expresses herself through writing, the age of texting is welcomed. If I get into an argument, please give me a moment while I go outline my main point and sub arguments before I hit send. I am constantly going over in my head things I’ve said and resaying them in a million different combinations wishing I had more time to think my answers through and say something differently. If I take too long to respond to a message, it’s very safe to assume I am rough drafting my response and it’s being edited before publishing.

Do You Hear What I Hear?
I am a Miami girl born and raised in Little Havana. My parents are Cuban immigrants that came to this city the same age I am now, 22. They had me at the age of 30 and my sister at 32. They struggled to do everything right and by the book so they weren’t stereotyped by all the negative connotations associated with being an immigrant. They became citizens, established their business, all while raising my sister and I. Majority of our community are fellow Cubans, but the city is just as diverse as the rest of Miami. I speak Spanish, but you couldn’t tell over my American accent unlike my parents. We blended in well and focused so much on being accepted in America that we never travelled outside of Miami. My parents were strict, but my good grades and honors gave me some leeway with them. It was not until I was older and able to travel on my own that I began exploring outside Little Havana expanding to outside of Miami to neighboring Florida cities.

Aliens or Cops?
Meet dumbass Darius. That’s my nickname for him because he’s always doing something foolish and there’s no other explanation than being a dumbass. For example, we have been planning this heist for months and by we, I mean, Darius, Domino, and myself, Rico. And of course, dumbass Darius messes up something! Me and Domino have been friends since diapers, I taught him how to potty train, even though when you ask him, he claims it’s the other way around. We became friends with Darius when he moved to Flatbush in middle school. We saw he was about to get his ass jumped right outside the park and we decided to help him. We found out the reason for the almost ass whooping was over a girl. We saved him that day and have been saving him ever since.

What Is This Trying To Teach Me?
One of the key ways to elevate your mind, body, and soul is to change the questions you ask yourself and the Universe. The question of why is irrelevant most of the time. Change the why question to what and you may begin to see a change. Every obstacle is a lesson and every quarrel is a chance to learn something about yourself and the other party, if any. This is one of the most powerful lessons I have learned that has power shifted my way of thinking.

Vision
I can't believe they convinced me to go on this blind date and this isn’t any blind date. This is with Everald Howard III. His name sounds strong and royal. It is pronounced like ‘emerald’ , just replace the ‘m’ with a ‘v’ (this is how he always introduces himself, like royalty). He is the new lawyer at my best friend’s firm. Once on board at the firm, he was very open about being single and ready to settle with a Queen who has her own throne. All the women there, both my best friends, are happily married. I was the only one left, so naturally one thing led to another and here I am driving to downtown Brooklyn to have dinner at Horizons, a beautiful seafood restaurant with live music, right on the edge of the water that switches to DJ by night. I could see myself letting loose and dancing with the man if the mood stays right. Look at me already letting my guard down if he makes me laugh a few times and isn’t arrogant.

Blossomed
Every parent wants their child to be the best that they can be and every parent is different in their approach to achieving that. Some parents allow their child creative freedom in finding their interests, likes, and dislikes while others strictly structure their child’s education. Jamal is a 17 year old young man who falls in with the latter. His Carribean parents expect him to attend a prestigious University to become a doctor, lawyer, engineer, or any other top tier considered profession and this was more than expected, it was almost arranged for him that’s how confident his parents were in that path. Despite the pressure and influence from his parents, Jamal was able to keep a secret from them, a secret that could change everything.

Caught Up or Set Free
I dug all day until the night fell and by the time I finished I had a duffle bag filled with stuff I found including the bones. I know they were bones because I eventually found the skeleton head. I did not panic when I found it because at that point I was tired and already had my suspicions. I did not start out digging either, I was there kneading the soil around the barn I had just destroyed and burned, that’s a whole other story that I already told [The Farmhouse Web], when I stumbled across some hard objects. One thing led to another and here I am with the duffle bag of stuff and bones. I filled the hole I dug and completed the kneading. I was able to plant some unknown seeds that I had found in the barn prior to destruction. I hope they grow and prosper to cover and erase all trace of a barn that once stood.

Shark vs Man
“Somebody needs to tell them!” bellowed Gil. “And how do you even know this information is true?” retorted Dent. “The dolphins told me. You know they are the only ones who can understand and communicate with humans.” This made the four sharks stop swimming. They knew if the dolphins said it, it was true. Dolphins were sneaky, but they were not liars. The idea of sending a message to the humans would now be considered.

Happy Birthday Carter
Carter loved getting presents like every other kid on the planet. His birthday was coming up so he was hoping for gifts in all shapes and sizes. You see, Carter was not a boy who expected or demanded, but he did wish and hope. It was his 7th birthday, so he hoped for some toys and wished for some friends to play with. Carter was homeschooled so he played with kids at the playground, beaches, aquariums, and play centers, but never at home, on his block, or in his neighborhood. He imagined a birthday party where all the kids wore birthday hats, played games, blew bubbles, and ate cake and candy all day. There were so many kids! He would have a bounce house, slides, a pool, and some farm animals. That would be the perfect birthday. But Carter did not expect any of those things, just hoped and wished and anticipated presents in all shapes and sizes.

If You See Something, Say Something
Being a full time mother of two, working full time, and full time significant other has it’s overwhelming points, but majority of the time it is full of love, blessings, laughs, and cries. Only recently, within the last two months, I have returned back to work as I just had my son 6 months ago. It has been a lot of change with the move to a bigger apartment, another baby, and my oldest starting Pre-K. Her school is in NYC right next to my job so she commutes every morning with me. I love it. It is full of adventure and life to commute with her. Children are such curious beings; they are full of questions and the most random thoughts where they have absolutely no shame in voicing. My mornings have become fun traveling with her, we play games like iSpy and Name That Animal’s Habitat, an original of ours.
