Lexie and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Date
The alarm sounds at exactly 6 am in much the way that good alarm clocks do when set by someone with misplaced optimism the night before, unapologetic and nauseatingly cheerful. Lexie groans and gropes blindly in the clock's direction, trying to stop the horrendously happy binging. It’s supposed to be reminiscent of a magical sunrise, but she suspects that sadistic monks wrote this delightful piece of musical torture.

Ten Years
Why did I agree to this again? I arrive fifteen minutes early, choosing a seat with my back to the restaurant’s main entrance. Your voice sounds in my mind, ‘if you’re not fifteen minutes early, you’re late!’ Just one of the many army sayings that you used to subject me to daily. Here I am, though, habitually early for a date that I don’t want to be on.

Remarkable
To my Grannie, I’ve been thinking about you a lot these days. My world is so different than yours was, but there are similarities that shine through. I know that I wouldn’t be where I am today without you and the stories of your strength keep me going when times feel dark.

Families that Craft Together
I’m going to be totally honest with you. This past Christmas break I was nervous that my family was going to experience a huge falling-out. Doors slamming, kids and parents yelling, things breaking - you name it, I envisioned it happening. Christmas is normally my favourite time of year. I love putting ornaments on the tree as a family, going through our old hand-made ones and reminiscing about the Christmases that they came from. I feared Christmas 2020 wasn't going to result in similar fond memories.

30 Minutes Before Bed: A Lifehack
Picture this: You're on the couch, casually scrolling on your phone, Netflix playing in the background when you suddenly realize it's after 11pm. You jump up, get ready for bed, check your phone one last time and then slip under your sheets. You've made a New Years Resolution to get a full eight hours of sleep and 7am is looming.

If You're a Fan of Fight Club, Give The Boys a ShotTop Story - March 2021
1999’s Fight Club is the epitome of a dark comedy. It gave us an apparently ordinary world where nothing was what it seemed, the hero of the story was fully obscured and it demonstrated the power that can be wielded by the average person. Fight Club is unapologetic, violent, gritty, twisted, and catches you off guard with its wholly obscene humour (the bag of fat, anyone?)

Mindful Parenting and Letting Go
Being a parent is rarely easy. We altogether too frequently are capable of putting unfair pressure on our kids to live up to our expectations of what our family life should look like. We need to learn to recognize these situations and when it's best to let things go for the overall well-being of our children.

The Plight of the Virgo
I'm a What? When I was two years old my aunt gave me a stuffed lion. He quickly became my favourite toy and I took him everywhere (I named him Daniel, that's a whole other story). That lion led to more lions and was the start of a collector's obsession. I was ten years old when Disney released the Lion King in 1994 - my fate was sealed. It was lion everything after that.

I'll Know It When I See It
“I’ll know it when I see it.” I look up and over my shoulder, and realize with a start that it was only a memory of my grandfather’s voice. I am browsing a rummage sale, my hand lightly grazing the tops of old books, but I’m not really looking at anything. I remember these sales, a Sunday tradition of my grandfather’s. It feels like I am ten years old again.
