Desirée and the River - A Story of Strength and Survival
The water was higher than yesterday. As the Land Rover traversed the low-water bridge, the tires slowly lost traction and the front end of the vehicle began to float. One thing was immediately clear - they weren’t going to make it to the other side of the river.

How to Hike With a Baby
The weather is changing, summer is on its way! Last year’s pandemic came with multiple challenges, but one of my absolute favourite effects was that my family, like many others, discovered the joy of hiking our local trails. We aren’t hardcore hikers, but we racked up over 120 kilometres of walking last summer and fall! And the best part?

Singing Loudly In My Car
I grew up on a farm in Alberta, a fifteen-minute drive to the nearest town and just under thirty minutes to where I went to high school. It was just far enough away that none of my friends would drive to visit me. Thirty minutes wasn’t too much for rural kids, but townies made it sound like it’s literally an eternity (insert dramatic eye roll). Essentially, if I wanted to go anywhere, I needed to beg my parents for a ride or to let me borrow a vehicle to make that happen.

Basic Training Tales
Introduction I joined the Canadian Armed Forces (it was known as the Canadian Forces back then) when I was seventeen years old. I left home immediately after high school graduation, almost nineteen years ago. Now I am a Major in the Royal Canadian Air Force. While my career so far has been fulfilling and exciting, it's fair to say that I did not have the greatest start.

Tabby-Cat Merlot
Work smarter, not harder, one of his father's favourite sayings ran through Liam's head. The sommelier was visiting this afternoon, Liam thought he had enough time to get the tractor running again. Changing the belt should have fixed the problem, it didn't. Liam had rushed his troubleshooting and now was in the midst of a larger repair.

She's Not Like Other Dogs
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cried through Sarah McLachlan crooning "In the Arms of an Angel" while images of shivering puppies and dirty kittens pepper the screen. These animals did nothing to deserve the pain that they lived through and I am so thankful that there are organizations and volunteers dedicated to rescuing them.

I Need All The Teacups
I used to watch TLC's Hoarding: Buried Alive and empathize with the traumatized people who were stars of the show. Not that I've ever been in a full-on hoarder situation, but I love to collect things and have a hard time letting them go. I'm strangely fascinated with second-hand shops, seeing all the things that others have successfully traded away.
