Audible Delights
I decided to reinstate my Audible subscription after enjoying several audiobooks over the lock period. I love reading books, but when I’m too exhausted for to read, audiobooks are a great alternative. The first audiobooks I ever listened to were the first four instalments of the Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling, which were read out by Stephen Fry. I borrowed them from the library as a child and listened to them all on cassette players. This was before the fifth book was out, so I never got round to listening to the last three.

Battle Royale by Koushun Takami
How I came across it? If you hear the word, Battle Royale, the first thing that will come to mind is the fortnite game. I found about about Battle Royale through an advertisement at the back of my copy of manga volumes published by Tokyo Pop. I had never heard anything like it before. Japan being transformed into a futuristic facist state where they send a random class to an island to kill each other until there is one left. Everything about the book is insane from it’s high violence, high school drama, gigantic cast, to it’s extensive world building and the map. This novel has adapted into a movie and a manga series consisting of fourteen volumes, both the movie and the manga series adaption were successful in their own rights and have their own quirks different to the book.

Push by Sapphire
How I came across it? Even though the book has been out for a while, I didn’t know anything about it until I saw the film Precious. I thought the film was amazing and it had some brilliant acting performances. Really loved Mariah Carey’s role as the therapist. Poignant how she got to redeem herself after her film Rainbow was critically panned.

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters
How I came across it? Long time ago, I remember someone mentioned it on a forum. The person said that Fingersmith by Sarah Waters was one of his favourite books because of the storytelling and wonderful romance between Maud and Sue. This is about the third or fourth time, I’ve read this book and I felt hooked straight away. Even though I have a long TBR (to-be-read) list on Goodreads, I always find myself coming back to this one one way or another.

Concerts I Recommend
I miss the energy, charisma and atmosphere that shines during music concerts. Everybody comes as one as musicians give it their all. The last concert I went to was in 2019 at the O2 arena in London to see Björk. What made that concert extra special was that I went to Iceland earlier that year and bought some of her albums at. Record store in Reykjavik which included her work with the band The Sugar Cubes. A great concert makes me feel like the world has come as one during a world of darkness and decay. It’s one of the things I miss about the pre-covid world. I was skepitcal that watching them online would not have the same effects, but I was wrong in some cases. I was happy to hop on a time machine through YouTube and watch the concerts. Here are 5 that I really enjoyed.

10 Films I Refuse To Watch
After seeing the backlash Sia got for her film, Music inspired me to make of list of films that I refuse to watch. Some of these are trilogies and if there’s two or more films from the same series, I’ll put them in as one to prevent clogging. I have a subscription with Netflix. At one point, I had Now TV and Crunchyroll, but I cancelled them to save money. It only made sense to have one and it seemed pointless to have lots of streaming subscriptions just to watch one film or a series. I do share my account with my mum, aunt and friends and they do use it more than me. Netflix has so much choice, but once in a while it will reccomend me stuff that I know I’m not going to watch.
