Summer Casino Vacation
After 2 long hours of driving, I pull into the parking lot and shut off the engine of the truck. It has been an exhausting, sweaty trip without air conditioning, but also very calming. It felt good to cruise down the open road with a full tank of gas and, briefly, not a care in the world. My husband rode in the seat next to mine, shuffling through his playlist, providing an almost constant stream of entertainment only interrupted by the intermittent loss of signal throughout the Delta.

The Every Day Hustle
Every day is a struggle. Every day I have to hustle. I get so tired of this game of Life. I feel as though I spend every moment of my existence either working to make money or trying to think of more ways to make more money. I have a full time job; shouldn’t that be enough? It never is. My measley paycheck is always gone just a few days after pay day (and I only get paid twice a month as it is). I have lost count of the numerous side gigs I have taken on. Some work, some are a waste, and so many turn out to be scams.

Lost in My Own Mind
I feel lost inside my own mind. Sometimes there are too many thoughts running rampant in my head that I can’t make heads or tails of them. I don’t know which way is up or how to keep myself from drowning amongst the waves of emotion. I’m surrounded by a stampede of noise and images, steady reaching out trying to hold onto any one idea, to make sense of any once concept. My heart races, my vision blurs, I get dizzy and lose my grasp on reality.

The Best Summer Food
Smoke disappears in the wind as it rises from the chute of the grill. The faint smell of cherry wood and lighter fluid flows over the kids as they splash and play in the sprinklers while Dad prepares the family’s favorite summertime meal. Their stomachs rumble as they wait impatiently for lunch to be served.
