The Little Rascals: Buckwheat initially was a girl
Buckwheat: In the beginning he was a girl When most people today think of the character Buckwheat, they probably recall Eddie Murphy's parody on Saturday Night Live. Murphy was mimicking Billie "Buckwheat" Thomas, AKA William Thomas Jr. . (March 12, 1931 – October 10, 1980). Thomas was an American child actor who is best remembered for portraying the little boy Buckwheat in the Our Gang (Little Rascals) short films from 1934 until 1944 when the series ended.

Alfalfa: The tragic life of Carl Switzer
Carl Dean Switzer became famous as a child actor during the 1930s portraying the character Alfalfa in the Our Gang and The Little Rascals film shorts. Alfalfa was taller than the other children, had freckles, and a piece of his hair stood straight up in the air. He was a series regular and one of the most popular children in the shorts. Carl and his brother Harold were both hired for Our Gang in 1934 but the older Switzer sibling was relegated to background status while Carl became a star. The brothers first appeared in Beginner's Luck in 1935.

Fond Memories Linger
Fond memories remain My grandma died in 2010 and I find I am continuously recalling things she said to me over the decades. The recalling of fond memories is now happening with my husband Michael who passed away in March of this year. I'm thankful because I have talked to some widows and widowers who can only remember the hard times now that their husband or wife has passed away, It's amazing how the mind recalls things that were said years or decades ago but I believe these positive words of wisdom are worth sharing. The following are some of the things my husband said that really made me feel good during our marriage. If I recall any more they will be in another article.

Racial history is evolving through ballet
Ballerino: Not what you may have been told Ballerino is an Italian term for a male Ballerina who dances in a major role. When I was a young girl in the 1960s and a teenager in the 1970s men who danced ballet were called "sissy's" which was a code word for being effeminate. I once was at a doctor's office and the little boy I was babysitting began dancing and a receptionist said he had great moves, I replied that perhaps he might one day perform ballet. She made a face and said she hoped he would do something more masculine.

Widowhood 101: Accepting the things we cannot change
Dear widow or widower: The man or woman you loved has passed away. The loss of separation and the pressures from society might make you feel you have something to prove. Newsflash: You don't have to date, have sex or marry again if you really do not want to. If that is your desire there is nothing wrong with it. Loving and missing the person you shared your life with for 30, 40, 50, or 60 years is normal. Grieving is difficult but it is normal. Please don't let others influence you to make decisions you may later regret. You cannot change the fact your spouse has died but you can accept your new status without feeling you must change it.

General Hospital update: Brad may now be married to the mob
General Hospital: Peter is down but is he out? Friday on General Hospital Bradly Cooper (Parry Shen) was revealed to be the inmate who gave Peter August (Wes Ramsey) the poisoned breakfast. This is probably no coincidence since his aunt Selina Wu (Lydia Look) agreed to kiss Peter. At this point, fans know that when the mob wants you dead you die but Peter August continues to escape death. If he recovers this would cause Sonny Corinthos to break his promise to not interfere in Brad's release from Pentonville. If he dies this would indicate that Brad is in league with his aunt and will probably be working for the mob when he is released.

Merry Christmas from Boots
Holiday Boots Emerges Boots is the kitty I purchased from the local ASPCA in late March after my husband passed away. We kept the name the shelter had given him because his paws do look like he is wearing white boots. His first night with us he was nervous, hissed, and ran under a bed. Slowly but surely he began to come around and has been a blessing. He is one of the family and I cannot imagine life without him. This gray Tabby has a nick on his left ear to indicate that he had been neutered. The idea that hsi testicles were surgically removed is a bit troubling for me but I know it is for the best. Boots is rather large so his outfit was a bit tight. He lay still while in it as if he were imprisoned so after getting a few photos I removed it.
