Marvin Gaye's "Whats Going On" was inspired by police brutality against (white) hippies
"Hippies" come in all shapes, sizes, and colors but most times the word conjures up images of white males in the 1960's with long hair, wearing bell-bottoms, and getting high. This story is specifically related to Caucasian hippies who were abused by the police in the early 1970s. I emphasize this because there is a point to be made. Please note I am not deflecting from the Black Lives Matter movement, even though all lives do matter. I am expounding upon the fact that police brutality has always been an issue. Americans are thankful for the law enforcement officers who do their job well, but still these stories of bad cops persist.

Stop blaming victims for racism
I have been reading my Facebook news feed throughout the day and noticed a disturbing pattern. Numerous white people were blaming Floyd George for his murder. Someone said they had read that he had been incarcerated for rape, and had drugs in his system. Even if that were true, it does not excuse Derek Chauvin for keeping his knee in the man's neck until he died. Some of the comments indicated that a lot of white individuals believed he was a thug and had done something to make the policed officer manhandle him. This attitude is something I see all the time in my city of Roanoke Virginia. Whenever a black man is murdered by local police, they put all of his business in the newspaper as if somehow he deserved to die.

The Peanuts Gang can shed light on today's racial issuesTop Story - June 2020
In light of what is going on in America in 2020, we could all take a step back and remember lessons taught to us by the integration of the Peanuts gang. It began with Harriet Glickman, who was an African American school teacher. She died in March of this past year. Glickman contacted Charles Shultz in 1968 after the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because she was concerned with race relations in the United States. She expressed her concern that there were no African American children in the Charlie Brown cartoons and in that same year Shultz introduced a little black boy named Franklin to his cast of characters.

Consequences for bad behavior doesn't change the heart, but it's a start
Those who may not have been strongly affected by George Floyd, helpless on the ground with a police officer's knee in his neck surely were troubled by what transpired on June 4 in Buffalo New York. An unidentified 75 year old white male was assaulted by two police officers and it was caught on camera. The man walked up to the officers and obviously said something. The next thing you know, he was shoved and fell straight back onto the concrete. As he lay there motionless with blood pouring from his ear, one of the many law enforcement officials who were decked out in riot gear tried to reach out and help. A fellow officer pulled him back and they all walked by leaving the man helpless on the ground.

Don't downplay racism with police brutality
One of my Facebook friends posted a question that had been in the back of my mind. He asked if George Floyd's death could have been simply from police brutality and not racism. It is true that Derik Chauvin had 18 prior complaints about his aggressive behavior. What is not known is how many of those victims were people of color. Two of the officers who stood by and allowed his actions were men of color, as one was black and the other of Asian descent. This morning Americans were made aware of a 75 year old white male, who was knocked down by police and left bleeding on the sidewalk. This indicates insensitivity for a human life, and an older American. What it does not do, however, is erase the situations where race is a factor. Let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Gregory and Travis McMichael exhibit generational racism.
Slavery in America officially ended in 1865. That means there has been 155 years since the Emancipation Proclamation. I am 61 and my great grandmother who was born in 1900 told me that her own mother was a little girl when slavery ended. That makes me five generations removed from when Americans owned people as property. My great grandma’s mother would have been considered. a slave even though she was a child. Keeping this in mind, then Gregory McMichael age 64 and his son Travis 34 would logically be 5 and 6 generations removed from the time owning slaves was legal. These are the men who are being charged with shooting Ahmaud Aubrey because he was a black man jogging in their neighborhood.

Melania Trump could be the most miserable woman in America
A hash tag surfaced shortly after Donald Trump was sworn into office that said #freemelania. Numerous articles were published in magazines and online saying she was a bird in a gilded cage. This recent photo speaks volumes and one does not have to be an expert to see what is going on. First and foremost, the world knows that Donald Trump is rude and crude. It would be only the most naive individual who would believe he is anything less with his wife. Other first ladies are often shown smiling and waving but Melania is mostly somber. In this photo she is stiff, is not smiling and hiding her eyes behind sunglasses. Can you even imagine what it must be like for her to live with the man the entire world, (except his base) believes is racist, homophobic, and has emotional issues?

White America please listen.Top Story - June 2020
It is unfortunate that people riot and loot after racial tensions escalate, because their actions detract from what is really going on. It gives White people the excuse to not see the Forrest for the trees. I am sharing in order to educate and hope someone finally gets it. I understand that all Caucasian’s don’t feel the same way but I address them as a whole to make a point. During slavery African American were treated bad. They were beaten until the skin came off their backs. They were hung from trees and black women raped by their masters. For this reason, before anyone calls the rioters thugs, consider the actions of early Americans. Once slavery was over, free blacks just wanted to make a living and care for their families like White people. So please Caucasian Americans read this with an open mind then look in the mirror and no further.
