How I recorded my EP with tape in 2021
So, I might not win any Grammys this year or the next, but that's okay. I mean, after all, I don't own a fancy bathroom to display such a trophy. I and ten other writer's aren't going to turn up on the red carpet and start preaching self vanity and idealism. Nope, I wrote, produced and mixed 'I just want to sleep' by myself. If you could use the words loosely because as you will find out there wasn't too much producing or mixing going on for that matter. It was pretty rudimentary and in a lot of ways very similar to the method used in the '50s or early '60s. I've been experimenting with using tape now for a little while, as you can see from some of my other material. However, this is finally a collection of music whereby I got it mostly right. I hope to show you in this article how I did it and if you are interested, maybe how you can try it! Would I advise you to try it? Hell yes, tapes are pretty cool.

Every musician could do with a linktree
The basics Linktree is something that more and more people are finding out about and using. Ever-increasing in popularity, not just with musicians but with bloggers, artists and content creators. Linktree effectively allows you to add together a bunch of different links into one handy URL. Want to add your YouTube? No problem. Want to add your Twitter? No problem. Having one link for all your links is extremely helpful. Not to mention that the URL is customizable as well. Which again is pretty useful.

Playlist Push
Playlist Push Playlists are a key part of the Spotify algorithm and an essential part of gaining more listeners on the platform. It's no wonder then, that artists are so desperate to get on them. So desperate in fact, that they are willing to pay large amounts of money to get on them. While there are creators of such playlists who are always looking for fresh music to add to their playlists free of charge, it's no secret that some charge huge amounts of money to get on them. Are they justified to do this ? Curating playlists on Spotify does take effort. To add tracks and also advertise the playlists. It takes time and potentially money. The more experienced ones definitely have a good reach and get you more exposure. I feel personally though, that there are many scams out there with so many promises and so little delivery. You need to be very weary. If someone is charging you $50 dollars to get on a playlist you'd better realize that's a heck of a lot of plays to get you money back around (15k) potentially. With so much pressure on them from the covid 19 pandemic, to increase their online revenue, there is a developing predatory behaviour targeting musician as there pry. So with that all said, I'll give you a few tips and pointers. What to look out for and what to avoid.

Online Gig Preview 30th October 7:45pm
My online Gig will be taking place on the 30th of October at 7:45pm It's my first attempt at an online show including several different artists. Not just local artists though; two from across the pond. So you could say this a truly global show.

I got 17 cent's from my music
My royalty payments from SoundCloud in July $0.17 So at the start of this month (October) I received my first royalty payment from Soundcloud. Before this, I really had no clue about how much money I would actually get. I heard rough estimations online that it would be $2–3 per thousand views. I didn’t have to pay as I was on the free trial for a month, so any money I did make, in a way was all profit. I wasn’t overly worried about it. Since then, in August, I have paid out for a yearly subscription (90$.) This includes publishing all my music to Streaming sites e.g Spotify and also stores such as iTunes. With any views, I get on Soundcloud also being ‘Monetised’. Straight away, first off the bat, I thought it would be easy when one of my tracks got botted for a few hundred views by a Ukrainian account. But now in October looking back at my first month’s revenue (July) it looks daunting and even downright unfair.

An Intro
Hello to all that read this. I want to introduce myself to you. I must confess I'm not the best author in the world. I'm not that interesting and I'm definitely not that successful. However, I do wish to share with you my adventures into the 'Music' world and my experience of being a DIY artist. Now, I have been a musician, so to speak for around four years or so. Starting out I thought just practising was the key, while very important, if no one hears your sounds how can you make it your life? So after more practice and then even more practice, I grew to love music. All I wanted to do was music. But how then to do that and earn a living. I had always imagined one day I would wake up and be really successful. All that practise meaning something. That day has not come yet and without tons of work, I dare say it never will.
