Passion.
P. Be Passionate. Believe in yourself. Take Pride in What You do. I studied Theatre Design and worked briefly for the National Theatre, UK. I had aspirations to become a world-famous film designer, so I went to Australia, where I thought I could make my mark.

We Don't Know What We Don't Know.
In one of my previous blogs, I mentioned the day I went onto a racetrack with my friend who races classic cars. We set out in an old Renault 5 with him driving at an astonishing speed (for a Renault 5). We hurtled at corners, hitting the brakes only at the last possible moment and flooring the throttle coming out of the bend. Thrilling! My friend’s confidence in his ability and his belief that I could do the same persuaded me that, having seen him do it, I could do it too. But there is a difference between seeing someone do something and actually doing it and feeling what it feels like to do. Nevertheless, before starting on the track, I was confident that I could do it too.

Should we trust our intuitions?
Whilst riding my motorbike (before it got stolen), I rode through a suburban street where cars were parked on both sides. Nice weather, good visibility, nothing to worry about. Then, for some reason, something told me to slow down to a crawling pace, which I did.

Evolution not Revolution.
The difference between innovation and invention. Fritz Haber, the German chemist, was awarded the Nobel prize in 1918 for what is now known as the Haber-Bosch Process. Haber invented a method of fixing nitrogen from the air by using a catalyst and pressure. This method then enabled the synthesis of ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen gas.

Fatal Optimism
Some years ago, when my son, Josh, was small, I listened to him and his friends playing football in the garden. There was a noisy running commentary, and then a furious argument exploded. Was it a goal, or did the ball hit the post? The post was a T-shirt on the grass.

Life-long Learning.
I've been sketching in my local area every day for more than a couple of months, and, to be honest, I had expected to see faster progress in my technique. What has happened hasn't quite happened in the way I thought it would. However, the benefits seem to be spilling over most unpredictably.

Skeuomorphs.
I always purchased books online, probably more than I should. In the last year, as with most of us, online shopping has been my saviour. Packages of pleasure arrive at the front door, usually within a day—just the right amount of time before I become impatient. There is always exciting as the little package arrives bundled with the joy of unwrapping. Pue, simple pleasure and regular dopamine hit. I highly recommend it.

SEVEN NOTES FOR UNLOCKING CREATIVITY IN THE WORKPLACE.
The times when I’ve felt most alive in my business were those when we generated a creative buzz, when everyone was excited about an idea. That idea carried with it an aura, enthusiasm and its own momentum. It was always infectious and left everyone with a positive attitude. These were bonding moments that made work into play.
