The 'List: Heavy Metal
Hello, one and all. So, here it is. The first official heavy metal 'list compiled by me and by good friend Calvin (Quaker Oates) Cherry. This one was a bit long to compile on account that we both love the genre and wanted to come up with the absolute perfect 'list. Yes, we here at... I'm not sure what we call ourselves; except Hall & Oates 0.2? We want to give you the best balls-out metal experience! Anyways, on to the 'list, but first, a history lesson.

The 'List: Billy Joel
Hello, one and all. My 2018 New Year's resolution is to make these 'lists more fun and challenging, and as promised; new genres explored, more decades explored as well as years in the rock era from every decade: 50s all the way to 10s. But, every now and again, with my good buddy Calvin (I'm Hall, he's Oates) Cherry, we will indeed profile many of our favorite singers, songwriters, artists and groups. So, with great fanfare and a tickle of the ivories, our first new year artist profile 'list highlights the career of one William Martin Joel, a.k.a. Billy Joel, a.k.a. The Piano Man.

The 'List: Best of New WaveTop Story - January 2018
Hello, one and all. Well, we're a couple of weeks into the new year and while we've been sort of stuck in the mostly 1970s rut, me and my co-conspirator in this experiment: Calvin (he'll always be Oates to me) Cherry have decided to shake things up and add more diverse 'lists rather than focus on singular artists. But, fret not; many artists from various decades will get their just due 'lists: Fleetwood Mac, Commodores, Billy Joel, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince are all due for 'lists this year, so hang tight, and they are being drafted as we speak.

The 'List: 1978 (40 Years Ago)
Hello, one and all, and Happy New Year. So...we're now in 2018! We survived the first year of the Trump Administration, which, I will keep mum as to where we are headed with said presidency. In the meantime, I'd like to take a look back at the music that was popular over 40 years ago. Yes, as luck would have it, disco still reigned supreme on radio and on the charts, but the burgeoning of punk rock, as well as the rise of hard rock and metal and the massive popularity of country music crossing over, began to counter the era of bass and backbeat.

Movie Review: 'Pitch Perfect 3' (2017)
Hello, one and all. So...a funny little story. This is the first "Pitch Perfect" movie of the franchise that I've seen in an actual theater. If I may confess, the 2012 inception film didn't exactly entice me to see it in a crowded theater in the first place. I thought it was some cheap "Glee" clone played for laughs; which, yes, I surmised perfectly. Then, I borrowed a Blu Ray copy from a friend of mine. As the Universal logo came with its own a cappella track and a group of young, nubile boys began riffing Rihanna's "Don't Stop The Music", I was instantly hooked; although, the Anna Camp scene where she serenades an entire front row with her undigested breakfast, lunch and dinner, gave me second thoughts about continuing on. But, I stayed with it - and became an instant (but, still much to my painful chagrin) fan of the film.

Movie Review: 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' (2017)
Hello, one and all. As I told a friend of mine, the Star Wars Universe (which I'm abbreviating to SWU for the purposes of this review; not to be confused with SVU, which is a subsection of the NYPD, which is also a popular NBC police drama, but, now I'm getting off the beaten path here) was a universe that I wasn't to keen on beaming up to (now, that's a Star Trek reference — but OK, I'm back to the topic at hand). As a five-year-old over forty summers ago, I honestly thought it was a lame universe to inhabit. Robots, wookies, a black-helmeted/cloaked villain with the voice of James Earl Jones was just too much of a head-scratching idea for my young head. It certainly didn't help that TV kept pounding the movie's images ad nauseum and with constant repetition. A popular disco song based on the iconic John Williams score was just the tip of the iceberg. I actually made my mother take me to see the film's rival, Close Encounters of The Third Kind, just to shut out the irritating SW mania sweeping the land. That didn't help matters as my mother still chastises me to this day for sleeping through most of it! But, this was the one movie franchise that clicked — just wouldn't stop clicking ever since, much to my chagrin. So, you all know the inevitable cliche: "If you can't beat 'em..."

The 'List: Best (Depending On Who You Ask) of 2017Top Story - December 2017
Hello, one and all. If any of you follow my posts, you all know by now that I do not listen; or rather barely to, any new music, unless it's by an artist that I'm still willing to validate and listen to. 2017, in my opinion, has been a less-than-stellar year in music, mostly because (realizing that it's a one-sided argument) the music has been so sub-par and one-note, that I must now chuck it up to a major generation gap.

The 'List: "Saturday Night Fever" 40th Anniversary
Hello one and all. As a child of only five years living in Brooklyn NY, I remember living next to a professional club disc jockey who had a killer sound system and whose collection was pretty vast with all types of music genres; salsa, merengue and pop being the main choices. But, around December of 1977, I distinctly remember being at his house as he unwrapped the latest album he was supposed to sample. The soundtrack to the new John Travolta movie, Saturday Night Fever. The film about young teenage ruffian Tony Manero, played by Travolta, who worked at a Brooklyn, NY, paint store by day; but danced like his life depended on it at a local discotheque on Saturday nights.
