Striking LAUSD Workers Don’t Care About Kids?
“Every man has a right to his opinion, but no man has a right to be wrong in his facts.” – Bernard M. Baruch If you want to see examples of extreme selflessness, ask to tour one of the LAUSD’s Special Education Centers. The children who attend these schools are among the district’s most vulnerable students, with some requiring intensive care from their One on One aides. These employees will repeatedly wipe the constant stream of drool from a wheelchair-confined child’s face with patience while taking care to preserve the student’s dignity.
The LAUSD School Board Fails To Prevent A Strike
“If LAUSD is truly serious about negotiating, they must begin by addressing and recognizing the blatant harassment of workers who are exercising their legal right to demand improvements to their wages and work hours, and increased staffing for the student services they provide.” – SEIU Local 99
Will Students Be Victimized By The Superintendent's Arrogance?
“A combined SEIU/UTLA strike makes it impossible for schools to be open, which is unacceptable to us as parents. Finalize a fair contract so that our staff, who are already barely making enough to survive, doesn’t have to lose three days of work to advocate for their best interest.” – Parents Supporting Teachers
Is Anyone Listening?
“A lie keeps growing and growing until it’s as plain as the nose on your face.” – The Blue Fairy (Disney's Pinocchio) The LAUSD Board meets monthly in a closed session to discuss items California law allows to be shielded from public oversight. Calling it a “Personnel” matter, the evaluation of Superintendent Carvalho is included in the points of discussion that occur without the prying eyes of constituents affected by his performance.
What Is The School District Hiding?
“A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance: And a people who mean to be their own Governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.” – James Madison
The LAUSD Continues To Support Florida's March Towards Fascism
“We need not to be let alone. We need to be really bothered once in a while. How long is it since you were really bothered? About something important, about something real?” - Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
Two LAUSD Incumbents File To Run For Reelection
“There are so many opportunities to create schools of specialized learning and [a magnet program located on Special Education center campuses] sounds like a fantastic new frontier that should be opened in the LAUSD Magnet program.” - Scott Mark Schmerelson
It Is Time For The Superintendent To Go
“It’s deeply disturbing that an organization that you’ve entrusted with such sensitive information is either significantly delaying — or even hiding — the fact that individuals had very sensitive information exposed.” - Doug Levin , K12 Security Information eXchange
Still Waiting For The School Board To Take Action
“Fairness does not mean everyone gets the same. Fairness means everyone gets what they need.” - Rick Riordan Last month, elected representatives on the LAUSD School Board were provided with a copy of the proposed “Improving Special Education Within the LAUSD” resolution and asked for their support. This proposal would change the focus of how services are provided to the district’s most vulnerable students and ensure that their needs are prioritized.
